J Herbin Rose tendresse (Tenderness pink)

According to the J Herbn website : “Rose tendresse (Tenderness pink): this is the rose of love and the flowers of the same name and symbol of love. The color represents the feeling of love and also tenderness shared by 2 lovers.”  What a load of :headsmack:

Disclaimer: It's hard to be impartial when I viscerally dislike this ink, both the colour and its behaviour.  I have tried to be as factual as possible.

I love roses, especially pink ones. But this ink reminds me of Pepto-Bismal. It is low on lubrication, has no water resistance, and the writing experience will Lamy Safari (it was decent with M/B nibs) and Pilot F3A was dismal. However, the Hongdian M2 liked it, I didn't. However, I couldn't touch the pens filled with this ink and was relieved to empty them :D

I think I have to mix it with some of my darker Herbins to give it more lubrication and change the colour as fast as possible ;)

If you like this shade of pink, you would need a wet pen and smooth buttery nib. Ink is legible despite the scans.

Chroma:

Writing Samples:

I’m glad I used a wet/smooth Hongdian M2 and not the usual Kakuno nib.

The UEF is a reverse Hongdian Ef nib. The First Ef is Hongdian, and then Lamy. You can see the stark difference between the two EF nibs and their dry times.  It’s pleasant in the first and unpleasant in the Lamy. Ink is legible despite the scan.

Photos are taken at a northern light window. It's interesting how the photo doesn't capture Midori's cream paper.

The colour was a creative killer for me. I tried my best, but well you can't win them all. ;)

:lticaptd:You romantic, you!  This color is somehow both pastel-ish and too bright.  I'm not sure how they pulled it off.  It's bright, but doesn't qualify as a "hot pink" (in my book).  It's kinda pale and pink - which ought to be pastel - and yet, it's not fully pastel.  It's a strange color that doesn't quite fit and though I like a lot of pinks, I don't really like this one.

:lticaptd:I think Pepto is actually pastel, which might make it better than this ink... :yikes:

Staaaahp!  You sold me at "Pepto"! ;) (Not.)  :lticaptd: (You're splitting my sides here with all the laughter.)

Well, that chroma is uninspiring.  The writing samples are relieving my upset stomach...  I especially like the quote on Hammermill.  Alas, even Iroful can't save this ink.

Oh, hooray!  The (drawing on the) swatch card shows the tenderness we've been missing!  But then, the tragedy!  Poor Mousey, left all alone after a terrible flood washes Kitty away!  But wait!  Kitty has returned to receive Mousey's rose.  What a relief!

Your "zoo" drawing is most thought provoking!

ETA: Oops, missed Tigger!  I forsee Mousey taking a leap as Tigger shreds that rose in play! :)

Thanks, @yazeh, for enduring this ink so we don't have to! :)

I was viewing the FPGeeks version while commenting on this and so only now discovered that the Hammermill image isn't showing over here.  FYI.

Thanks from me, too. I never liked this ink. I have it, and all of the other of Herb's inks as well. I like the smell of roses, I like the colour of them too, but only deep and/or bright red roses. White'll do, too. But this is somewhere in between a pink (which I don't like), or magenta (which I don't mind). The best part of it all is your ascertainment that here, yes, we have something to do with "a load of..."

This is anti-romantic colour. Romeo, Romeo, where art thou, so I can break this bottle of ink on your head :D

It has  a bit of icky fluorescent pink y colour. It might be ok on candy floss or on flowers, but as ink, no siree ;)

I don't want to write with an ink, which reminds me of stomach ache or worse :lticaptd:

Same here :) Though I have thing for good old antique roses, like the Alba roses. As long as its scented, I can pretend I'm colour blind :D

@yazeh I'm with you on disliking this ink.  For me, it wasn't so much that it looked like Pepto-Bismal as that it had a nasty neon purple undertone to it.  Glad I only got a sample of it.

It was really disappointing -- especially since there are some J Herbin inks that I love (I'd never want to be without Eclat de Saphir, because it behaves so well in my 61s, which are all capillary fillers).

You nailed it. It's that surprising neon undertone. It's like the awful Noodler's Rachmaninov, minus the scent and difficulty to clean :)

I think my favourites are a few of the Paris series, Vert de gris, Vert Empire...

Thanks for the heads up on Rachmaninov -- I don't have any of the Noodler's "Russian authors" series inks.

Yeah, I like Vert Empire -- it was the first green ink I ever tried that wasn't too bright and "in your face".

This is cracking me up.  🤣

I can assure you that I would never have bought this ink if I read the JH blurb.   But I have it (along with Rusty Anchor) and like it.

So there!  😹

Nice half-illos.  The Case of the Vanishing Kitteh, by Agatha Kitty?

Well-done review, as usual, @yazeh.  Thanks once again for making life colorful with your detailed, entertaining InkSplorations!  Keep ‘em coming, even when you hate the ink.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

@LizEFI truly am curious. :)Maybe she can make me see beyond my experience.  I tried mixing half a convertor in the Hongdian M2 with a bottle of "remains of Herbin". It turned into a light Violet pensée. Very yucky. ;)

@yazeh, I do like the color.  If I'm in a pink mood, since this is very different from the (few!) other pinks in my collection: 5280 Flamingo, and, uhhh, well, InkVent Pink Ice.  It's frothy, delicate, and springlike.

Thanks. Much appreciated. Vive la difference! I'm assuming you've found the right pen for it?
