Jinhao pens - thoughts and questions - Maybe buying ?

Hey , i saw a Jinhao model i really like , the 9056 wooden model , in the so called << tiger >> cap .

So , i was away from Jinhao and their pens , along the years i came across a lot of jinhao knock-offs and i didnt really appreciate replicating famous and iconic  fountain pen models ....

Although at this point , after all these years i think they became a descent brand , with some good models , its also famous about producing some very high quality pens in a very low price like this 9056 , i think ....

So i wanted to ask your opinions or someone that has experience on jinhao pens , whats up with the brand and if you have some tips .

Maybe which of their models are considered flagship ? Do you consider it a legit brand ?

And , finally where can someone buy their Official models ? ( thats important ) do they have a site ?

I own many quality Jinhao pens. The Jinhao 100 "Centennial" is a great place to start with the brand (I own 5 of them).

So you have experience on the brand , wich is their flagship pen ? and where i could buy official jinhao pens ?

I should say i am not interested in models that copy well known pens , but only genuine jinhao models , meaning their models and their own identity .

I don't know what you mean by "flagship". I have no interest in what their most expensive pen is (I have no idea). They probably also make pens sold in China that are not sold in the US (where I am).

And what is an "official" Jinhao pen? Do you mean "genuine" and not a fake Jinhao?

Most pens are copies of other other well-known features or styles or filling systems and nibs. I don't care about that either.

Search "Jinhao pens" on Ali Express and you will see hundreds of models. You can decide what is to your liking from there.

If you are in the US, you might want to wait to order from China. There may be a moratorium on mail delivery from China to the US.

jinhao pens are readily available on Amazon, eBay, and Chinese sellers such asAliExpress. Right now the Jinhao 9019 is very popular, it is a very, very large pen with an interesting extra large cartridge converter.  Before that model came out, I would say that the flagship would have been the X159 model and the previous previously mentioned 100s.

I bought many Jinhaos on Temu and eBay. I do like the 159's. A little different than the x159. They come in many colors and write very well.

Another good thing about Jinhaos is that you can very cheaply buy replacement nib units: I have a Jinhao 82, and I bought a pack with an EF, an F and an M nib unit* for about £10 in the UK... probably nearer £5 if ordered from Ali Express. [* nib units means with the whole feed: you can buy just the nibs, but they're very difficult to fit, whereas the nib units simply screw in, easy peasy.] If you do buy nib units, of course very important to check it's the right unit for your pen!

I changed some of my nibs. It takes a moment, but if you are patient, I will work. 😉

I have had two Jinhao pens. Once upon a time a 159. One of the things I didn't like about was its size. It is huge and very heavy (over 50 grams), I prefer lighter more nimble pens. So I gave it away. Couldn't tell you how it wrote as it was years ago.

I also have a 599, which you could call a Lamy Safari "homage" or some would say "knock off". But the nib is different as is the material. Mine was a gift and the guy who gave it to me had taken the factory M nib and stubbed it. It's pretty good writer with that custom nib. I did have to replace the converter at some point. Haven't used it in awhile.

The manufacturer of Jinhao pens is the Shanghai Qiangu Stationery Co Ltd. More information about the company can be found here  I consider Jinhao a legit brand. A good aspect of the brand: most of their fountain pens come with converters. Avoid the 991/992 due to problems with cracking. The best Jinhao in my opinion is the X750.

The best Jinhao

There is no "best Jinhao".

The old Jinhaos (159, X750, X450) are usually metal pens and well-made. The available nibs in the old pens are typically M nibs. But the format is standard Jowo #6, so you can switch to other nibs available in the market. I think there are meanwhile also F nibs for this pen.

The new Jinhaos (100, X159, 9019) are resin pens and very well made. I especially like the 9019 with its #8 nib. You get EF, F and M, heartbeat F, heartbeat M for the 9019 and the X159 - both are #8. Don't know which nib size is in the 100, I don't have one. From the model 9019 exist smaller models 9016 and 9013, I think both have #6 nibs. I also don't have these two, so please reconfirm.

And recently, they introduced also the model 82 which is available in MANY colors. Will get one today but don't know yet if I can recommend or not.

edit: the pen has arrived - very small and the EF nib writes very thin lines; it is one of the thinnest EFs I have. Otherwise, it looks well-made.

In my opinion, one of their very best is the Shark. I've had some of the best hit rate with those. Some of their pens like the 51A suffer from inconsistent build quality. Generally speaking, the pens all write quite well. It's mostly quality control.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.
