Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Jinhao Blue

This is review #322 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: No water needed.  While this is similar to most royal blues, it doesn't appear to have any purple component, so it's more blue than many.  The microscope slide was boring.  Cleaning was quick and easy.

Smoke wanted to star in today's video and can be heard at the start of the writing complaining to his agent that he didn't get the part.

Zoomed in photo (Text seems a little too pale.)

Scan of Completed Review (Very close.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Very close for both.)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:". Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 309µm. With 322 inks measured, the average line width is 297µm.) (You can see a tiny bit of pink sheen.  My eyes saw a lot more (but only here, not in regular writing).)

Your reference to Diva Kitteh Smoke cracked me up; thanks for the laugh.

I may have this Jinhao Blue, christened 'Jink.'  It came with three Easter Egg color Jinhao pens that resemble Lamy Safaris.  It seemed dense, poweful.  And extremely blue.  I just dumped my bottle of Krishna Causal into it, so it's now named JinCausal.

I've been using the new color for artwork, and oddly enough, the Causal has overpowered the Jink component.  Also oddly enough, I have all your InkParisons.

Things are heating up for Quin and conpany!  Glad they had that breather before.

(Changing myself?  It's all I ever do!) 😜

You make Tuesdays (aka Monday The Second) magical and fun... I'll look forward to the next review and story.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Yes, it's blue blue (no other dyes or colors I could see), darker than some blues in this range, and from a wet enough pen would be pretty solid.

:D  Sounds interesting.  Is there still any teal to it?

Very interesting.  The Krishna likely had a high dye concentration.

  Two are so common that it's not surprising!

I like this blue. It’s too early in the morning for me to have any real thoughts about it, but it’s pretty and the story continues to intrigue me.

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Pelikan M300 CIF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Sheaffer 3-25 EF ringtop, Skrip Black

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Great review @LizEF

I listen to this video in SFS (Surround Feline System) to hear the immortalized squeaks of promising rejected actor :D

I think he's purrfect for dubbing on high speed, mouse cartoons destined for cats.... ;) or the next Alvin & the Chipmunks 😛

I like the colour (in abstract)  but with so many blues available, this seems a bit overkill.

I didn't know that Quin was living on Earth. I always though they lived on a planet far, far away, maybe someplace like Darkover ;)But you have created a perfect backstory, with the Vika theme. Looking forward to see were our hero to be and his powers will lead him and his friends.

Thanks for bring magic to this very cold Tuesday 🙏🙏

@LizEF Like yazeh, I kinda like the color (and the dry time seems pretty awesome) but have way too many blue inks already.  Thanks (as usual) for the review, though!

:)  Yes, this is a color everyone seems compelled to make.

Well, I didn't feel like coming up with a name for the planet.  Finding a new name for people / things can be very, very time-consuming.  So we can pretend they're on an alternate Earth, or we can just say "that's how it translates from their language"....

@LizEF, most Krishna inks have massive dye loads.  I rinsed out the Krishna bottle, because it's little and cute, but the cap remains stubbornly turquoise.

As does my mix.  😹

  That's what I thought.  I haven't used any of their inks, but the reviews I've seen suggest they're very concentrated.  Caps can be annoying that way - I've got some sample vial caps that refuse to come unstained.

"No, no, no! I will not change my opinion about blue inks!"

"But this looks not like a Royal Blue - it's more, ... hmm 🤫 ..., what is it? It is Un-royal Blue-Blue. Interesting!"

:)

Thank you, @LizEF, for proving an un-royal blue Wednesday morning magic staff surprise to us!

To be honest, meanwhile I have a handful of blue inks I like a lot. But it is always interesting to learn about variations not considered before. And, the same for learning about oldest trees and oldest staffs! ;) :)

Please allow me a question: why is the planet called Earth? Ok, this is a double question. Why is our real planet called Earth if almost ¾ of it's surface is water? And why is the story planet called Earth, when there are ink and pen villages and towns on top - why not Rhodius or Mnemosys or Clairfontasis ? ;)  I guess, it's all about the surface ...

One life!

Story planet: Liz is lazy.  (And partially, it didn't occur to me until it was too late - this actually isn't the first episode where characters have talked about the Earth.)

Our planet: Is the planet named for the dirt, or the dirt after the planet?  Had we called it "Waterworld", the Hollywood lawyers would have sued someone. ;) As a species, we do tend to default to being rather shallow...  Also, had we dug deep and called it "Core", we would have ended up as the bad guys in some other planet's sci-fi movie about the alien hordes of Kor:D   (Kor is a really good "bad" name.)  (You see, everything is Hollywood's fault.)

More interesting questions: Why did we let the Germans name the planet?  Why are the (American?) English rules for when to capitalize "earth" so bizarre and illogical?  Why does (American?) English put "the" before "earth" when what we mean is "Earth" and the "the" isn't needed?  Would it have killed us to just keep calling dirt "dirt" so that our capitalization rules weren't so complex?  (Side question: Is there a difference between earth and dirt?)

I think the problem here is that we all start speaking before we learn the rules of language!  Clearly this is a mistake.  Obviously, we need to start teaching children rules before we allow them to use language. :P

You'll have to excuse me now; I'm going to go see if my egg has hatched into a chicken so it can lay an egg for my breakfast.

Someone is having a bad Earth 🌎 day? A green egg with ham and some  grape popsicle can do miracles.

The land on which anyone lives is, their respective Earth. And who knows maybe Makhabesh's world lives parallel to us humans. Only maybe we've lost the ability to see it. And who knows, maybe it's Vika/Makhabesh or Snek that are dictating the story through you, so that we can see the magic once more 😊

Ah! InesF is lazy! Didn't read the story from the very begin! 😒

An idea 💥: Viva la revolución! What if ... the formerly unknown Society of Colourful Inkers (that has banned all black from their daily routine :) ) insists on the correction of this bad The Earth idea into the reality of plane, flat, white planet surface? 🤭 OK, yes, it's only an idea ...

Indeed, that's something to write a philosophical thesis about.

You may be aware that Germans are those strange people on the other side of Austrians border ... 🤗

Magic is all around us - we only need to open our eyes, open our ears and open our minds to become part of it! ;) :)  And all of a sudden, everything is possible ...
