Small note paper

Recommended Posts

Anybody else likes to use the backside of receipts from cash registers (or similar printers) for small notes? 😉

The information paper printed out when I borrow books from the library is even better. I get more paper than I could ever use.

(Influenced by my father and by my professor who always used received envelopes or other paper.)

I do sometimes, if it's a receipt for something I paid cash for, rather than for something bought using a credit card.

I also sometimes use the backs of envelopes especially if it's for something like making shopping lists or "to do" lists for myself.

Yes.

Sometimes I will even cut up grocery bags or packing paper, and use that. Some of that is surprisingly good.

Yes, that's how I've found out that the cheap thermal paper used in cash registers, can be surprisingly smooth and resilient to feathering and bleeding with most fountain pen nibs (if a bit smudgy) 😀

On a related note; I believe Tomoe River was originally meant for cheap mass printing as well (as in mail order catalogues, TV guides etc). Certainly its texture feels reminiscent to the touch (although not a thermal paper at all).

A few years ago, until 2019?, there were two kinds of Tomoe River, one was for printing, the other for writing.

You still can buy batches of 4000/8000 sheets at Rakuten, size A4, B4, to make your own notebooks. Unfortunately, only 52g/m2.

B5 8000: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/auc-shikisai/50607/  18000 Yen

A4 4000: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/auc-shikisai/50602/  11800 Yen

B4 4000: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/auc-shikisai/50603/ 17200 Yen

Caution: this is the offset printing presses and simple rotary presses printing paper. I think it can be used for writing too. Tell me if I am wrong.

They also have smaller batches and they have sizes which are slightly larger than those mentioned to make sure that your notebook pages are exactly B5,A4,B4.

Regarding 68g/m2, I was told in 2019 that this paper is expensive to make so it is not in stock. You would need to contact the maker for investigating the availability of it.
