Montblanc Celadon Degrade Meisterstück Solitaire LeGrand Fountain Pen

I have had an eye on this new Montblanc model ever since it started appearing in the Asian and European markets last year. It finally arrived in the US market last month, and I am happy to say that I got one of earliest available ones here in the US.

I bought this at Dromgoole's (of course) and I want to thank Michael for the great price and his courtesy and efficiency in getting it to me.

This is the Montblanc Celadon Degrade Meisterstück Solitaire LeGrand Fountain Pen with a medium nib and it is a true grail pen. This will be my last addition for a while, but it is a wonderful addition.

Congratulations! Your pictures are making me rethink whether or not I like the colour; you've persuaded me 🙂

Very nice.

@Scribs I encourage you to at the very least go see one in person - the pictures really are not able to do it full justice! 🙂

@David In Austin Hearty felicitations on acquiring the 2024|2025 Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Celadon Dégradé Fountain Pen (ident 129533, with Regular Nib)!  Along with the Celadon Dégradé version with Calligraphy “Expression” Curved Nib (ident 129302), this is the third iteration of the Calligraphy Solitaire line, the first being the 2019 Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Gold Leaf (ident 119700, with Calligraphy Expression Flexible Nib; ident 119688, with Regular Nib), and the second being the 2022 Calligraphy Solitaire Burgundy Lacquer (ident 125331, with Calligraphy Expression Flexible Nib; ident 125338, with Regular Nib).

It was said that Montblanc had planned three different Calligraphy Expression Nibs, and since the Burgundy Lacquer was the second Calligraphy Solitaire release, I suspect that the Burgundy Lacquer (with dégradé or gradient effect lacquer like your new Celadon Dégradé pen) may have been originally intended to feature the second Calligraphy Expression Nib — the Curved Nib — but that the Covid pandemic may have interfered with that nib’s full scale production.

Thus we see the third Calligraphy Solitaire design — the Celadon Dégradé— with the second Calligraphy Expression Nib, the Curved Nib.  It causes one to wonder if Montblanc will release a fourth, different, Calligraphy Solitaire pen design featuring the third Calligraphy Expression Nib.

In the meantime, may your lovely Celadon Dégradé fountain pen furnish many years of enjoyable and reliable service.

@Mark from Yorkshire Interestingly, Montblanc had omitted “Dégradé” from the name of the previous Burgundy Lacquer version even though that pen debuted dégradé (gradient effect) lacquer for Montblanc.

Degrade in English has a negative meaning, to lessen, reducing, or not showing due respect. So maybe that is why it has been previously omitted. That and the reasoning behind my comments

@Mark from Yorkshire “Degrade” (English) and “dégradé“ (French) are so different in context and meaning that I suspect that consideration of the former probably did not enter into any naming decisions.  But I understand your point.

"Degradé"   (French definition is "gradient" as someone has already noted) vs. the English "degrade" is an example of a "false cognate" in formal grammatical terms. A common and sometimes unfortunate issue. I'm not sure how that applies though to this monochromatic pen color scheme.

@KAC If Montblanc’s photo is closely examined,

one can discern that the tone of the lacquer’s green colour darkens towards the ends of the cap and the barrel; this is the gradient effect to which Montblanc refers.

I have to say that the pictures do not do this pen justice. In real life the gradient differential is much more defined and subtly beautiful.

@David In Austin Thank you for this encouragement to view the pen in person.  The nuances of translucent gradient lacquer are notoriously difficult to capture in images.

@Mark from Yorkshire I'll admit that I saw the header for this thread (and the name of the pen) and my mind went the SAME direction you did....

@inkstainedruth that is the joy of being on here, every day is a school day. That and the difference in spelling and Languages can skew peoples understanding. I’d not realised in French it means gradient. I don’t remember learning that when was in high school. I’m glad I’m not the only one that went down the route I did with my thought process

@Mark from Yorkshire I could not agree more.  I learn multiple things daily on this forum, and am continually amazed at the generosity of members here in imparting information.  @KAC clear and direct contribution was instrumental in this particular case.

@Higa Warmest congratulations on your fantastic acquisition!  What a wonderful way to be introduced to Montblanc.  Inspiring!

May this gorgeous Celadon Dégradé fountain pen provide many years of faithful and pleasurable service, sparking the beginning of a beautiful relationship with the brand.

And a hearty welcome to The Fountain Pen Network!

Wow, such a big difference in the photos. David's photos make it look like it's platinum trim. While The official Montblanc photos suggests a hint of gold while Higa's photos are full on gold. Dégradé gold? 🤣

With all that metal this must be a heavy pen?

Congrats to all who purchased it.
