Colorverse Methuselah Grove

This bundle belongs to the Earth Edition. Methuselah Grove and her big sister Methuselah tree, celebrate the oldest living beings on the planet.

I got this  5ml bottle on a whim.  It's a dark brown, with gorgeous chroma, short dry times on Rhodia and curiously eternal long dry on many Japanese papers (Midori/ Life/Iroful, slightly better on Tomoe River 68gsm. It has impractical/ cute bottles :D :  You can either buy a 15 ml bottle with a 65 ml bottle of Methuselah tree, or a 5 ml separate bottle, with an impossibly narrow opening that’ll need a syringe/ ink miser to fill your pen. :)  Cleaning was pain, I'm not looking forward to my other pens :gaah:

Bottle compared to a 10 ml Herbin bottle, on my messy desk ;)

Ink also stains fingers and is slightly difficult to clean from pens.

Writing Samples:

On the Rhodia sample the 1.1 / B nib lines are reversed. If you see smudge, it’s because it took a long dry time to dry.

I tried watching Lion King, Pride of the Simba. The only merit of the film was trying to draw a lion cub.

Paper is a very bad Hilroy sketching paper.

Need I say how much I love the chroma?  And the sketches?  😸

The bottle is cuuuute!  Just not so much the 'other' stuff.  (I'm still cleaning a Platinum that had in it a relatively harmless ink.) This Colorverse looks water-resistant but some ink did lift.  Still legible though.

I do have the Sailor Douyou, which I mainly use to clean out other stubborn inks.  As an ink itself, can't say I remember Douyou being one way or another.

@yazeh, thanks once again for making life colorful with your detailed, entertaining InkSplorations!

I can see all the big names there: Simba, the Bremen Town Musicians, the Foucault pendulum, a rainbow in the waterfall test and probably everything else if I just wait long enough. (freely adapted from G.B. Shaw) :)

Thank you, @yazeh, for providing so much ink review joy in so many variations!

I do not adore brown inks, but I may not withstand the attractive chroma and the general appearance of this Colorverse ink. I guess this has the power to break my 2025 ink-acquisition moratorium. 🫣 🫢 ;) :)

One life!

  The only way Colorverse get away with those 5mL bottles is that they're so darn cute!

Chroma: The grove is on fire! :D

Writing samples: Hmm.  Looks black to me.  Ah, I see a bit of brown in the photos.

Love the swatch card. :)  Kitty and mouse brave the grove...  What will they find?

Mousey chroma and kitty tree! :D

Love your tower of "people". Cute lion cub.  He looks sad, though.  Ah. :) Mousey is showing such character, swinging on that pendulum.  Kitty is thinking, "Must resist urge to knock him off his pendulum..."

Luv it! If I had known about this one earlier, I would have recommended it to "whoever that was" who was looking for something like this....

PS: Yes, Liz, The chroma is very interesting.... What a mix!!

Not sure this is a color for me, but thanks as usual for the comprehensive review.

I do have a couple of questions.  Is Colorverse marketing the same ink under different names depending on the size of the bottle?  That seems very strange....  Or are they actually slightly different inks depending on the bottle? Because I know that they often seem to pair up a larger bottle and a smaller one of slightly different inks as sets.

Scanner isn't the best. But yes it looks black. I've been using a lot of "ambiguous" inks recently, and when I use them especially on cheap paper, the look more or less dark/ black ;)

I should not look. Yes, I should, no I shouldn't. Mouse or pendulum. Too many choices.... 🙀

No. It is my understanding that Colorverse has many series. Spaceward,   Astrophysics, Earth etc. These inks come in two bottles 65nl / 15ml (different colours). But you can buy some of the 15 ml bottles in 5 ml sample bottles.

Probably this page of Goulet's would be more helpful :)

No.

Colorverse have, to my knowledge, three sizes of this shape bottle: 5mL (basically, an expensive ink sample), 15mL, and 65mL.  The 15mL and 65mL bottles come together in a set and have different inks in them that are thematically related.  I don't know if it still holds true, but back in my ink shopping days, you could not buy the members of the set separately, nor was there a larger option for the ink that came in the 15mL bottle.  (These were complaints folks had.  I don't know if Colorverse have addressed them.)

Colorverse also have at least one other bottle shape, in 30mL, for other ink lines.

Okay, that's what I THOUGHT I remembered about the "sets" -- that they were different but related inks.  Which is why I was so confused about "Methuselah's Grove" vs. "Methuselah's Tree".
