Visconti Homo Sapiens with 23k Palladium Fine nib, a short review

None of my four Homo Sapiens with the inhouse gold nib wrote out of the box. I had to get them all tuned before they wrote. It's too bad that not even one of them was working properly and one had a defective feed that needed to be replaced.

They write beautifully now though, after they were tuned.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

I bought my Homo Sapiens from Bryant (Chatterley Pens) in 2010.  I have never had a problem with it - it writes wet & juicy.  However, I did ask Bryant to check the nib before he sent it to me.

I think that is the way to go with these pens.  For some reason, I have never had a problem with my two dozen Viscontis.  They are beautiful pens.  And some of my favorites are the early Van Goghs with the 14k nibs, which turned me on to Visconti in the first place.

I think the problem is that the percentage of bad Visconti nibs is alarmingly high.  I had hoped in house nib production would help them get the quality under control…but my experience with 5 of their nibs recently suggests it is even worse.  One bad nib I could forgive…5 is an atrocity.  (Both gold and steel varieties..not one put ink to the page)

Here’s to hoping they resolve their issues.  I may never buy another but I have hope for folks like you.  They are beauties to behold…but pretty is as pretty does.

I ordered a fountain pen from Ensso pens, shipped via USPS on 01 Jan 2020.

Yet to receive the pen. 🙁

Oh that's a shame!  Ensso make great little pens, mine arrived quickly from the States and (strictly between you and me) the packet showed a value low enough to convince my wife that I'd found a bargain!

I'm sad that so many people have had bad experiences with Visconti. All of mine have been stellar. From my Mythos Apollo to my 23k. Palladium Homo Sapiens Bronze age. The worst thing I've ever had is the Mythos Converter got ink behind the piston kind of so that is a pain, but other than that the nibs and everything have been stellar. I got my Homo Sapiens from Chatterley, Bryant and his wife are amazing and will make sure things are good and if not they make it good as fast as possible.

My experience with Visconti has been similar.  At this point, I have 27 Viscontis and so far, no problem.
