Just found out about erasing shields, in what context are they useful?

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Yes when I took drafting and when I worked as a junior engineer and did some drafting, I made extensive use of eraser shields. They are very thin and the cutouts let you only erase what you want to erase versus accidentally erasing lines that need to stay. Still have mine along with quite a few drafting templates. (Some 45 years later!)
