Replace mother of pearl taper on John Holland dip pen?

I have a taper-less John Holland #2 nib in its ferrule. You can see there are remnants of the mother of pearl taper still inside the back end where, I assume, it snapped off. (Probably wasn’t difficult to do….these things are so tiny!)

Does anyone know if the MOP tapers were glued into the ferrule? I haven’t attempted to pry it out just yet, but I would like to replace the taper if possible. I don’t know how to affix it, though….what kind of adhesive (if any) would they have used back then?

Thanks for any help you can give!
