Definitely up for sending samples, in fact I have an A6 notebook that I give to pen club newbies if OP would like one.

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Pelikan M300 CIF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Pelikan M605 F, Pelikan Edelstein Moonstone

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I hesitate to recommend anything as everyone's likes and dislikes vary, plus there is no guarantee that the product might not change if a different batch is delivered. Having said that, I've just taken delivery of two B6 size (21x13cm or 5x8") hardback notebooks that were inexpensive (£3.59 each including postage for buying two or more, otherwise £3.99 at present), have dark blue covers, 240 pages of 80gsm paper and which seem to work pretty well with fountain pen ink.

No appreciable feathering or bleeding with:

Pelikan 4001 blue-black

Pelikan 4001 black (broad nib, very wet)

MB (old stock) Midnight permanent blue-black

Diamine Monaco red

Visconti blue (very wet medium/broad nib)

I'll try other inks as I go.

Said to be Chinese WallDeca brand but mine came with no name, individually wrapped in cellophane and sturdy cardboard envelope.

They are not first quality but I can't yet find any fault, and at that price I'm going to get a couple more from Titanium Bargains on ebay.

I'll try and take a picture of the test page and post here.

Thanks for the correction!  (I gave up on Black n' Red and Hamelin notebooks when they added the annoying Scribzee marks at the corners, so I haven't bothered looking for, let alone trying the new stuff.  Perhaps I should, just so fix in my memory the differences.)

I'm relieved that I'm not the only person that has abandoned Black n' Red because I don't like the corner markers.

I’m a little late to this party…

Rhodia dot pads and notebooks (A5) for the best paper experience IMO

and Clairefontaine (large spiral bound notebooks)

I use Leuchtturm notebooks too, the paper is fine. But not as good as rhodia.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.
