Your 2024 in pens and intentions for 2025.

In 2024 I bought 17 pens, most of them vintage.

I am interested in Montblanc pens and I am very pleased that I managed to find two rather rare Danish models 224 and 244, as well as a good 142. I especially liked the 224 - good size, great B nib and red color:

Also 2 Eversharp: Doric first generation and Skyline. Doric is very good.

Parker Jack-Knife 23 1/2. Comfortable pen, wonderful flexible nib.

Waterman no. 2 in excellent condition. Very flexible nib.

Unknown R. M. “Always Ready” safety pen, similar to an enlarged Waterman 42. Probably one of the most comfortable pens for me, fits wonderfully in the hand. I am very pleased.

Of the more or less modern ones, I would like to note the S. T. Dupont Olympio Midi. Great color, great quality and appearance.

The other pens of 2024 seemed less interesting to me, although not bad.

I don't have any special plans for 2025. But I have already found and paid for another S. T. Dupont Olympio, and I am also looking at one interesting vintage eyedropper.

Happy New Year everyone!

2024 saw me using mostly my MB and Cross Townsends and reminding myself about some of the lovely inks sitting in my cupboard.

2025 is likely to be the year I sell off some of my surplus pens that have been unused (but not unloved) for some time. I bought them years ago from Andy's Pens and hardly used them: two all-black Sheaffer Statesman, one of the same with the two-tone nib and a green Admiral. The 'medium' nibs are too fine for me so I'll only keep one back (maroon).  I believe the classified sales here is no longer active so I guess it is ebay time. I hope they go to good homes.

I also have some inks to move too: Parker Penman Ebony x4 unopened (I'm keeping the Sapphire though).

As for buying new pens, I doubt I'll be doing much of that as my needs are met by my already-too-many pens 😁 but who knows...

Got to prune my fishing reel collection too - several will never get used by me and other folks may then benefit.

I am a bit at a loss how this even happened, but after thinking "Oh, I´m good, I don´t really need any more pens and I think I have already acquired most of what I really want" when 2023 neared its end, in 2024 I ended up buying more pens than in any single year before.

Do I venture to give any prognosis about 2025? I don´t think so. Except this: You never know.

I just bought another pen yesterday after thinking I was done for awhile (but seriously, it was $25 restored, how could I pass it up?), so I’m all about leaving all options open. After all, it seems like the pens find you and not the other way around.

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Pelikan M300 CIF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Sheaffer 3-25 EF ringtop, Skrip Black

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

I very much second this and it sums up my fountain pen year 2024 pretty nicely.

2024 got out of hand…2 Visconti Opera Demos, a Visconti HS Color, an MB 149 Curved calligraphy, an MB 146 calligraphy flex, 2 custom nibs from Marty Winnfield (though they haven’t arrived), a Jinhao 9019 (best value and biggest surprise), an ST DuPont Defi, and a Sailor Kyoto garden (pending delivery).

After this year I should have a 5-10 year moratorium on buying pens.  Doubt that will happen though!

I’m hoping that something as nice as the ones that found you seek me out this year.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. And if something very nice comes my way that I already have, I will gladly point it in your direction. 😉

Speaking of letting pens find you, my husband ordered me a Pilot 742 FA because “ it’s still Xmas.”

That's what 2024 was like for me as well....  When I counted up how many pens I actually bought in 2024 I was just staggered....  And of course a lot of them were at estate sales, so very inexpensive, but some of the vintage ones then cost a fair amount for repairs....

And I've *started* 2025 by just ordering a bunch of converters last night (two Parker converters, two Sheaffer converters, and a Pelikan converter) and topping off the order with a couple of bottles of ink to hit the threshold for free shipping....

Amazon Japan is where he ordered it from. If I could trade you one for a galah, I would!

They sense you wandering around those estate sales, Ruth! 😆

Oh, the days of my just randomly wandering around estate sales are LONG gone.  Now?  I'm checking out the listings -- especially if the estate sale company posts photos -- *ahead* of time.  Because if I have to get up at "zero dark thirty" to drive an hour to stand in line for ANOTHER hour to get a good place in line before the dealers and pickers do?  It had better be worth going to....  And better be worth not getting sufficient sleep....  Especially if there are multiple sales on any given weekend (which there generally are) and they're all completely opposite directions to get to from my house!

I ended up with five new to me pens in 2024 if my count is correct and I haven't forgotten anything.

1. Ranga Monterey with Architect broad

2. Montblanc Noblesse 18k fine

3. Pelikan MK10 fine

4. Eversharp Skyline 14k Manifold fine (3 & 4 both in August)

5. Newton Majestic medium

First and last were new, only the MK10 a ebay find.

Couple of Parker converters (slide) for 45's, some ink. Finished off a bottle or two too.

2025 acquisitions probably won't be more, less is likely. We will see how things go.
