Looking For A Brown Ink with decent water resistence

Recommended Posts

Hiya, I am looking for a warm-toned brown ink (somewhere around diamine ancient copper. i just dont want it to be gray-ish). By decent water resistence i mean that it stays readable.  I am open to ink recepies, however, i would prefer getting one that's store-ready. Feel free to list multiple, it is greatly apprecieated.

Preferably no sheen, shading is awesome, but not required.

Fyi I use Leuchtturm and Clairefontaine paper, no need for it to be printer paper friendly.

Thank you in advance! I hope yall have a great day :D

I’ve been using DeAtramentis Document Sepia for watercolor in Leuchtturm 120gsm notebooks and it doesn’t budge under a water wash.  I’m just not sure if it is as colorful as you are seeking.  It tends to be a little darker brown.

You need to look for water resistant/ waterproof inks:

Check the De Atramentis Document line: De Atramentis Document Red Grey or Urban Sienna might work.

Octopus has also a line of Write &Draw pigment inks: You can check the colours here:

https://www.octopus-office.de/shop/de/kreativ-tinten/write-draw-ink/7331/write-and-draw-ink-set-schreib-und-zeichentusche-38-farben

I'm assuming you're living in Europe. If so, you can buy different samples from fountainfeder.

Happy hunting :)

IMX Noodler's Brown doesn't run too much under water, when allowed to dry (which it does quickly, at least on the cheapest copy paper I can find).

I used well water, and ours is fairly soft -- I haven't ever noticed deposits on our glasses, for instance.  The three drops on the grid were allowed to soak in and dry.  The spirals were run under the faucet for 5s and then blotted with a paper towel.

Per the 2007 Clark's Ink Sampler, the following brown/burgundy inks have GOOD or better water resistance.  Aladine Sepia, Campo Marzio Polvere de Luna, Caran d'Ache Storm, Colfer's Imperial Cote de Nuit, Conway Stewart Burgundy, Diamine Maroon, Noodler's Nightshade, Noodler's Burgundy, Noodler's Red-Black, PR Black Cherry, PR Burgundy Mix, Rubinato Bordeaux (scented), Sheaffer Burgundy/Bordeaux.

Bear in mind that Clark didn't necessarily buy all those inks in 2006; his bottles may have been several years old when he did this.
