Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Jinhao Green Bamboo

This is review #317 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Added a couple drops of water to the cartridge.  This is a very unusual green.  I don't have one like it.  It tried to do chromatography on the swatch card...  The microscope slide was boring.

Cleaning was very quick and easy.

Erratum: "The kept up the charade..." should be "They kept up the charade...".

Zoomed in photo (It's not *completely* wrong... But I don't know how to describe the difference.)

Screenshot (It's a little off, yet looking at the full sheet, it gives a good idea of what a written page looks like.)

Scan of Completed Review (This is very close to what my eyes see.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are fairly close.)

Line width (The "I" in "Ink:". Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 316µm. With 317 inks measured, the average line width is 297µm.)

Great review @LizEF  The ink is very Christmas appropriate. I like mostly mysterious greens and this one isn't one, but it doesn't mean I cannot enjoy the colour or the review.

I like the storyline and how the parents team up with their son to send him on his adventures, and Quin showing emotion, which is very tender.

I like the quote, which is so true, and so prominent in so many families, who have seen trauma....

Thanks @LizEF, wishing you, the boys, a merry Christmas, peaceful if possible 🙏🙏🙏

If a little pale. :)

Yes, not the one. :D

:) Thanks!  Poor Quin, never to reconcile with his siblings - or so it seems.

Great and small, secrets destroy - and are a burden to keep.

Family secrets.  Do I ever write about anything else?

And what snarl is this I hear?

I might have a cart of Jinhao Green (as well as the Thornton pen).  And… I love green inks, but dang.  This is pale.  Pale as Marley's ghost.  (As is Thornton).  I used to dip the Thornton nib into something dark just to make it legible.

Quin, stay strong!  @LizEF, thanks for making Tuesdays magical and fun... I always look forward to the review and story.  Merry Christmas Eve, everyone.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Nice review, nice green. Reminds me of my Apple Glory, although a bit less bright, maybe with a tick of chalk, half a tick more blue....

For the sake of your fingers, I certainly hope so! ;) (Hope your fingers are improving!)

Someone's engine upset that the driver put the pedal to the metal? :D

:D  Yes, pale, and to me, not plant-y enough despite the name.  Now you have me wondering what mixing might work with it...

Thanks!  Yes, your description sounds right, though I've only seen online pictures of Apple Glory.  I mentioned in a reply on another platform: I saw a YT review of this ink done with a broader and wetter nib, and the ink looked much better to me there, so I'd suggest a big wet nib for this ink. :)

Not a color for me, but thanks as usual for the review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

True family secrets should be written with Green Bamboo on pastel-green paper! ;) :)

Even not intended, the green fits well to December 24th👍

Thank you, @LizEF, for this ink review and for sending out Quin!

May a new adventure keep our Magical Heroes busy and us entertained! :)

This ink has an appealing hue, despite being too pale for everyday use. How I imagine the colour from your magnified images, it seems to be somewhere in between Colorverse Cat Nebula (with is almost invisible) and Wearingeul Mad Hatter (which I love quite a bit).

As many others already announced, me too, Jinhao will not get my money for this ink.

All the best for 2025

and looking forward to Sylvester ink review! :) 🎉

One life!

Hmm.  A bamboo Christmas tree! :) I have friends who use a palm tree (fake) for their Christmas tree, so why not?

A brighter green than either of those, I think.  Perhaps one day I'll break open all the remaining cartridges and dump them into my TWSBI Go - a broad, wet nib - and see how it looks there.

OK, what mental leap am I failing to make?  The only Sylvester I know is:

Thanks for the review. Quite a pale green, but I bet it would do better in broader nibs. I didn’t even know that Jinhao had their own ink line. Never seen them them in my usual ink shops - or maybe I simply overlooked them. So many inks to choose from these days.

Especially if they're wetter!

I only discovered them while looking for a larger cartridge for one of my mini pens.  Sadly, this didn't fit.  I've never seen Jinhao inks in any FP store - found mine on Amazon.  FWIW, I'm not terribly surprised that they're not widely available in FP stores - after reviewing 7 colors, I find that on average, they need really good paper (if I look close, some of them even fuzz on Rhodia).
