M1000 ink windows

The black m1000 I have has an ink window, which I find very useful. Do the regular green, blue and red colored m1000’s also have an ink window? Thanks.

The older models are somewhat transparent, if you have decent eyesight, you could see the ink level if you held the pen up to the light. The newer versions are opaque.

There has never been a Blue or Red M1000. Aren't you thinking of the M800?

As for the green M1000, as @Penguincollector said, the old ones were transparent/translucent and one could see the ink level. Apparently the new ones one cannot see the ink level (I say apparently because I heard of it, but never saw one).

@Lam1, I didn’t even think about the colors available for M1000, good catch (in my defense, I had a restless night and just now made a latte)!

Thank you all.

If there is no way to see the ink level in the new green m1000’s I will go for a second black m1000. There is a bit of an inconvenience not knowing what the nib is before reaching for it but for me it is outweighed by being able to see the ink level.

There are raden versions available at Truphae and Cult Pens, FYI.

@Penguincollector, no worries! And a latte is a good way to shake up a restless night (although, I would need some 5 or so of them given the nights I've been having 🤪).

Now, those Raden ones... as soon as I hit jackpot in the Powerball I'll grab one 😂.

@Ali Hobbies, another possibility is to pick up a used green one. I don't have the green/black per se, but I have a M1050 Green that I picked up used and never had any problems. Also, the new special edition Renaissance Brown is still available (if it is a color that you'd like, of course) and, while it doesn't have an ink window, if you put a cell phone light behind it you can check the ink level.

I took photos of old (right) and current (left) barrel of M1000.

The nib unit and the filling system are removed.

We can see that the current barrel is made of green and black strip resins.

Just FYI.

Agreed. Many Pelican fans were disappointed with the decision to forgo the translucent barrels. I’d look for a good used one on the secondary market instead of a new one. You might even save some money that way.
