Wow.  That's AWFUL!  Have you contacted the seller and shown that person the photos?  And Royal Mail?  And was the package insured?

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

If you have bought it from a seller and they have not delivered the pen in a perfect state then you should go back to the seller, it is their responsibility to deliver what you have bought.

Your contract for purchase is with them and not Royal Mail, for which you may be thankful, believe me.

Hi Ruth,

Yes I've sent him all the images with an explanation as well. He first of all cannot believe that the pen was destroyed despite him packing it a construction pipe which is practically unbreakable. However, the package might have been shaken to an extent that a small part (cap) in a tissue would've been exposed and then the package mightve been hit really hard somewhere to smash the top end of the cap that badly that it broke.

Since my explanation, I haven't received a reply from him and believe me, I've been trying to work this out with him. Since I have not received a reply, I have filed for a return request and ebay says it'll intervene unless the seller and buyer figure it out on their own. They've taken time till Dec 19.

The seller is a top-rated seller on ebay and I'm sure this wasn't his fault but the postal service. But then again, it isn't my fault either so he should at least try and work with me for this. I hope he does!

But in all of this, the postal service destroyed a part of history unnecessarily.

Yeah I have messaged him. I've received his reply once asking for an explanation but nothing after that despite me trying to work this out with him.

I also feel that he packaged it nicely. It is unfortunate that despite his best effort, the postal service still managed to mess it up.

Also, on their website, the royal mail has uploaded an image saying proof of delivery and this takes it to a whole new level of sneaky as the proof image doesn't even show this package.
