How Many Mont Blanc Do You Have

Mike Schulz

Recommended Posts

Niksch, I gotta ask how many MB's do you have, what are your favorites, and what is in your daily rotation?

I've got all the WEs, the four Dragons, but I am enamored with the 13x and 14s series. Somewhere in this forum is a photo of my tray of these pens. I've learned to repair them, and use a vintage MB everyday. I regularly use a 146 in OB or OBB and 1960s 149s in M, B and BB.

Right on! Thanks for answering my post!

I previously answered just one, a Boheme. I've just acquired an old 221 with a broad oblique nib that's wonderfully smooth, so now I have two.

Lucky you, I really want that one! Just played with it today at the MB boutique in Vienna, but can't afford it at full MSRP.

I am not sure how to count my MBs, because I've given one of mine away to my husband, and also bought another vintage one for him. Technically those two are not mine, but they are still in the family : ) I also have a set of Scenium FL/BP, which are MBs but not fountain pens... Well here they all are anyway:

1. Greta Garbo

2. Franz Kafka

3. F Scott Fitzgerald

4. Charles Dickens

5. Boheme Platinum Line

6. Boheme Stainless Solitaire

7. Boheme Sterling Pinstripe

[8. MS 145 Chopin (given away to husband)]

[9. Monte Rosa c1950's, gray with gold trim (husband's)]

[10. Scenium Fineliner]

[11. Scenium Ballpoint]

So, depending how you count, I have either seven, nine, or eleven : )

One too many, a 144 .. ;)

Oh?..

I do not like the look of the entire MS series, which is why I gave my 145 to my husband. But I was just thinking that maybe the 144 would make a suitable pen for my Filofax loop. Previously this space was occupied by a $12 Pilot Birdie, but after a year of service it betrayed me by leaking. So I do not trust it to go in the loop again (my Filofax is my wallet and datebook; green ink stains not an option).

Would you happen to know how thin the barrel of the 144 is?

QM2- check the "vintage 144 vs modern 144" thread in the MB forum I just made. I took digital caliper measurements of a vintage 144, and perhaps you could get an idea- there are rulers in the photos. Or, ask the kind photo-taker for measurements. :)

Thanks! I had overlooked that post. Based on the photos next to the ruler, the pen -- even in its modern skinny incarnation -- looks too big for a wallet-size Filofax. Odd; from having seen it in person I recall it being truly minuscule -- could have sworn it was around 4"!

NONE

But this is due to the fact that I'm a student and I can guarantee that I will get a 149 one day.

Hi

My Montblanc Collection is as follows:

149

146 Le Grand

Chopin black

Chopin burgandy

Solti

Toscanini

Noblesse silver

Noblesse green jade

W.Faulkner

Boheme

All these pens were gifts but 2 (149 and Toscanini). 4 pens have fine nibs, 5 are mediums and 1 is (perhaps) a broad. The best writer is 146 (broad nib?). It was a gift and at that time I did not see the label but it seems a broad.

I had minor problems with one Chopin (inside cap), 149 (piston leak backwards), Boheme (clip alignment) and Toscanini (nib - my fault?). 149 is the last I bought (2 months ago) and has some ink flow problem. Sometimes the ink does not reach the nib. It is necessary to open the piston filler. I use Aurora black that is considered a very good flow ink but I will try other. Both Chopins leak, mainly at planes. Noblesse are fine nibs, very hard, not wet and a bit scratchy. I never write with them.

I do like my Chopin Burgandy (my wifes's gift). It has some more emotional value. It writes well also.

However, I do not intend to buy another MB, at least, in the near future.

Best Regards

JMVC
