Hello. Found my old Sheaffer Targa 1000 with the sqeeze metal/rubber convertor. Rubber I think has rotted? Want to replace it and bring it back into service. Cant remove the convertor from the nib. Soaking it in water. From memory it should just pull off? No twisting? Stuck fast. Any help appreciate. Regards Ozni

Greetings!

all sheaffer converters are pull off, soaking in water is a good idea.Squeeze converter is hard to find and expensive, sheaffer piston filler is in production now.

Good luck.

Yes, a bit of dish soap in cool water and another soak should help.  Just keep changing out the water as it gets really inky, it should come loose eventually. Both another squeeze or piston converter or cartridges should be pretty easy to source. If you have trouble finding a replacement, let us know your general location and we can help you find a retailer.

Once you do yet the converter off, the sac can be replaced. It's a bit tricky to lever off the black end, but it can be done. I think it needs a #14 sac which is shellacked onto the nipple in the usual way.  I have restored a couple of these converters, so take heart!

(I believe that is our photo of the piston converter .... okay to use, just please give us credit.)

We do have a few of the squeeze converters at $20 on our website -- see

Try a little bit of heat if you have a hairdryer or something like that. Not enough to get it hot just enough to warm up the metal a bit. That might loosen things up a bit. Otherwise just keep soaking, it will come out eventually.
