Diamine Inkvent - Advent Calendar madness!

Ashenden

Recommended Posts

I’m enjoying seeing the advent calendars by @Ashenden

Advent calendars were not something my family did. But I decided to get the Lindt version this year.

I noticed tea and soup advent calendars at World Market. They had advent calendars for pets too.

Inkvent Madness, Day 10

Yes. Still behind one day. Absolutely no hope of catching up, despite trying my best. The Christmas season is just too busy and too much to get done. Great things, fun things, but things to get done nonetheless. We went to a play last night, a fantastic rendition of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Wonderful singing and the most clever stage sets! I usually lose my attention span at some point in most stage plays, this one kept my attention the entire time—it was two and a half hours of pure enjoyment. But, because of the play, we missed our daily wine and chocolate advents... so these two will be catch-ups on the next installment.

I had to frog my Hobbii Advent project as I realized I missed a stitch or two on the ends, which made the project not have straight sides. Fortunately I caught this early and only had to redo about 6 rows, so not the whole thing. But that means I won't have any progress pictures to show until this weekend. Drat.

Now on to the ink of the day:

Spoiler

Chilly Nights... a fitting name for an ink acquired in the middle of December since we're sure having our share of chilly nights here! I'm not a big fan of blues or blacks, but this one is really appealing to me and especially because it's not super dense like some of the other blue/black Diamine inkvent offerings of the past. It's not saturated with color to the point that it sheens, clogs the pen, or becomes a problem getting all over everything. And I like that this lack of density gives it some nice lighter blue color in the thinner areas of the calligraphy.

I don't think it shows up well in this photo, but there is silver shimmer in it... you can see a little of it at the lower tail of the swatch card.

The silver is the perfect compliment to the base color and it's very elegant. Love it.

Ooo...lovely. Another shimmer ink which I can admire from a great distance and not add to my List.

Will work for pens...

My Lindt Advent Calendar has two bears in it. Today, day 12, was one of them. Can’t wait to see day 12 ink.

Today is 12-12-24. I like this date because 12+12=24, and it’s the same way for the European style of writing dates.

Inkvent Calendar Madness, Day 11

Well, we doubled up on our wine and chocolate calendars last night, and will also do so tonight, because the spouse is leaving town for a couple of days for some friend time. I don't mind this, as I get more wine and chocolate on the nights we have it, and can do something different, like a bourbon cocktail, on the days I'm alone. I'm also still worky-worky on the crochet calendar and frogging it was the best thing I could have done, because it looks absolutely perfect now. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and start over to get a good result. Anyway, pictures of that tomorrow; today I only have ink and edible items to show off.

Now for today's ink:

Spoiler

Day Eleven is called Grotto. Not quite sure why—I don't really associate oranges or orange reds with a grotto—doesn't that seem more like a cool blue or green place rather than an orange one? Despite the name, though, I like this ink. The color is really lovely considering that orange isn't my favorite color—it's a more muted rusty orange with some bright almost pink highlights in the thinner areas—and this one has a very evident greenish sheen as well. You can actually see the green in my photo near the top of the artwork and in some spots of the calligraphy. The sheen is more pervasive than the picture shows. The bottle says it is Extreme Sheen, but I can't really see how it's any more extreme than other sheening inks I have tried. It does sheen well, though. I don't know if I would buy a full bottle of this, but I would definitely keep a sample on hand and am more than happy to have the Inkvent-sized bottle.

Yummy chocolates as always and it was fun to have twice the wine because we've had to double up on days due to evening commitments. No complaints here ;)

Today appears to be double post day, and photos won’t save day. I’ve tried four times to save a photo. To get my post here to save, I clicked on refresh. Revenge of the Lindt Bear evidently.

@Ashenden how much did the Advent candle calendar cost, and where did you get it, if you remember?

Yeah, it's not the first time I've had a double post show up here. I can't figure out how to delete the extra one.

The advent candle calendar was about $15, and I got it at our local grocery store. Some of the scents have been pretty nice. But they aren't super strong like say, a Yankee candle. Kind of a more subtle scent.

Posts cannot be deleted. You can edit the post (within the timeframe of your id permission level) and remove the contents but the post itself will remain. And that's assuming nobody has quoted your post because then removing the contents won't impact the other user's post that quoted yours. At best you can ask a mod to 'remove' a duplicate post but I think it just gets hidden not actually removed and the same limitation if it's been quoted.

@Ashenden Ironically my response to Ashenden about the Inkvent Day 11 review doesn't seem to have shown up at ALL....   Which was basically saying that while I normally don't like orange inks, "Grotto" seems to come across as more of a burgundy/red orange color.

Not having the best of luck tech-wise in general.  Yesterday I had to PM some twinkie who was hitting on *ME* on my friend's FB page after hitting on HIM (he's gay so it wouldn't have done HER a bit of good, of course) and tell her "Go away troll!" (didn't bother to say "Oh, and consider yourself BLOCKED").  But of course someone ELSE PM'd me about something I'd said on another friend's page about how my post was greyed out or something because FB considered it "offensive" and my response to THAT person was, "Yeah, right -- the SAME people who told me that some creep hitting on me on a business's page HADN'T actually said anything 'offensive' -- but said NOTHING in response when I pointed out that the creep had swiped the avatar of some guy in Florida (someone I don't even know) and changed ONE letter of that person's last name -- so if you DID know the guy in Florida, and didn't look carefully at the name?  You could EASILY have been scammed.  And I THEN basically said to FB, 'So, what you're telling me is that IDENTITY THEFT is *PERFECTLY OKAY* with you people?'"

I often find the refresh option is your friend. If your post does not show up, refresh, and it will be there waiting to be submitted. Yesterday, when it showed saving for quite awhile, I touched refresh, and the post was submitted.

Well, in my case, I was sufficiently fried yesterday (especially last night) that I very easily could have not hit the send button....

Every time, I come to this thread, I feel slightly more overweight, a bit tipsy, seem to see colour spots all over the place and I seem to have a  recurring dream of crochets hooks running after me :D

Lovely craftsmanship. I wonder if were an illuminator in a different life

Inkvent Calendar Madness, Day 12

Well, day 12's ink was a portent, because we woke up to fresh snow this morning. We had an inch by breakfast time and then it really hit, several inches fell throughout the morning, finally clearing up to blue skies late in the afternoon. After about a month of dry weather, it was welcome from a moisture standpoint, but the spouse left today for the friend's trip and I did have to worry about them being on the road. Despite that, it was a very wintery, very cozy Christmas scene and I turned the lights on even in the daytime because it just felt fitting! I spent the day in the house doing my WFH job and then some house chores. I'm trying to finish up my crochet advent project since we get to see what week 3 is tomorrow and I really detest having too many works-in-progress lying around at once. It is just a few rows short of being done, so I will have a picture tomorrow.

Because the spouse won't be home tonight, we doubled up again on the wine/chocolate advent calendars, and will do so again when they're back, so updates on that may be a bit spotty.

Now for today's ink:

Spoiler

Day Eleven: Snow Globe!

This is another very nice blue, quite a bit darker than Chilly Nights, and is classed as a "chameleon" ink. So, it can't quite decide which color it's' going to be. But, you can see some purple and almost teal in the spots where I dabbed it with water. All of these Diamine inks have been quite well behaved so far, and this one is no exception. If I was a bigger fan of blue, I'd consider buying this ink. I really like the effect of the different cooler colors in it. This is a nice offering from the Inkvent calendar.

Another double day on the wine. I got stuck with the Chardonnay since for the last two double days I've been claiming the red and it's my spouse's turn to have red. I really dislike Chardonnay—it's usually way too dry for me—but this one wasn't too bad. A bit on the sweeter side compared to other Chardonnays I've had. Also... one of these chocolates had some crunchy stuff in it, like maybe toffee bits... and it was FANTASTIC.

Here's the most appropriate reply to this thread that I've seen so far:

Thanks for the laugh @yazeh, and I hope you enjoy today's post.

I do like snow globe; blue has favored status at my house.

Does anyone have a feel for how likely for these to become regular production?

Currently most used pen: Parker 51 <F> -- filled with Pilot Blue Black ink

Inkvent Calendar Madness, Day 13

No wine or chocolate for me last night! But I did get my crochet project done and I think it turned out pretty good, once it was blocked. I have enough yarn to do a second one, so I'm going to change up the order of the colors a little bit so the next one matches but isn't identical. It was a fun project and I learned a new crochet skill, so yay for me! Other than that, a boring day wrapping gifts and checking off my gift list so I can go do some last minute shopping tomorrow and Monday. I hope you all are caught up with the Christmas rush, and can sit back and enjoy the festive season. Just in case you aren't paying attention, we have just a week and a half until the big day, for those of you celebrating Christmas.

Now on to today's ink:

Spoiler

This one kinda put me to sleep, appropriate, because the name is Lullaby. It's not an exciting ink. I don't know what's with the Inkvent this year but there are a lot of pale, washed out inks included, and this is one of them. The base color is nice, but for me, it needs to be darker and deeper. Although I'm happy to have the Inkvent sample, I would not buy a full bottle of this. It's just too light for me especially for writing. This one is a Standard ink... no shimmer, sheen, chameleon, or other special characteristic other than it needs more pigment, haha. This one also seems quite dry to me in comparison to the other Inkvent offerings. I had a tough time getting it to flow well in my Parallel pens, which is unusual for any ink.

I'm really missing the wine and chocolate! I did find a 3 inch square of V Chocolates toffee in the pantry that I'd forgotten about buying two weeks ago, so I ate that. No pictures, the thing was gone before I could even think about getting out a camera ;) And I've been enjoying some old fashioneds instead of the wine while the spouse is gone, which is a nice change at least for a few days.

And look at that crochet! Heckuva good job if I may say so myself. I'm quite proud of this one, actually.
