Diamine Inkvent - Advent Calendar madness!

I do like snow globe; blue has favored status at my house.

Does anyone have a feel for how likely for these to become regular production?

If they hold true to what they've done in years past, they release the entire calendar in big bottles (cute bottles with legs!)  in the spring sometime. I think last year it was in April or thereabouts. Honestly though, I've liked so many inks in past calendars that it would be prohibitive to buy them all in big bottles. Last year I just bought a second calendar, giving me around 20-24 ml of each color, which is plenty. You can also sometimes find the calendars at discounted prices after the holiday is over.

I had a tough time getting it to flow well in my Parallel pens, which is unusual for any ink.

The Parallel specific inks have twice the amount of surfactants /lubricants than regular fp ink, so I’m not surprised that this dry shading ink is behaving like this. You might also notice this behavior in Pilot cursive nibs, even though they use regular Pilot inks.  That looks like a good Pelikan ink, although I wouldn’t buy a whole bottle either. Your crocheting is lovely! Thanks for sharing your art and evening goodies with us!

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Pelikan M300 CIF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Pelikan M605 F, Pelikan Edelstein Moonstone

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

So... Parallel ink cartridge in a pen with a CM nib is worth an experiment? Woo hoo. Thankyou.

Lovely crochet. And calligraphy. And inks.

Will work for pens...

I like the look of both Snow Globe and Lullaby.  But I have an awful lot of similar looking blues so can probably do without the former, and would have to see Lullaby in person because it looks a little pale on the page.

Maybe? I mistakenly filled a Prera Iro-ai with Diamine Moondust and it was like I had used literal dust in there. I had to add more White Lightning than I usually use to get it to flow at all. You might end up needing to water the Parallel cartridge down a bit, but not as much as you would expect.

Inkvent Calendar Madness, Day 14

Well, I'm getting behind-er and behind-er. Just too much to do this last couple weeks. I'm going to get right to it, so I can post my catch-up today as well.

Now on to two-day's-ago's ink:

Spoiler

Day fourteen Mint Twist. It's very minty! Minty in the spearmint-green base color and minty also in the blue peppermint shimmer, which is difficult to see in this sample or in the swatch card. While this ink tends to the paler side, it's still dark enough for writing and I find myself really enjoying the cool color this ink and the overall look of it. This may be a candidate for a full bottle for me, as I have no other ink in my collection that looks quite like it.

No chocolates, crochet, or candles on this one, as I'm waiting for the spouse to get back so we can catch up together. I will be opening week three of the crochet advent today so I'll give you a preview in my next post.

Happy inking and enjoy your taste of Mint Twist! We're just about halfway through the calendar!

Mint Twist is giving me an Emerald Green vibe.  Emerald Greens I have and the shimmery bits hold no sway so this one should be avoidable, for me.

Enjoying your first looks though.

Inkvent Calendar Madness, Day 15

Still behind, but back to my normal one-day-behind status, haha. This is my second post this morning and hopefully this brings me up to posting the ink on my regular schedule of the following day. It's all really because I'm busy busy busy and super late, but I'm going to tell myself it's to save all of you from my spoiling the calendar in case you did happen to buy one. Yeah. Right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

No chocolates or wine until tomorrow's post. We will be enjoying it tonight though! I'm really looking forward to getting back to the edible/drinkable calendars. I've missed my daily dose of chocolatey goodness.

Spoiler

Sleigh Ride. A sort of burnt-orange, yet reddish, magenta-undertone ink with a super-duper green sheen. Although you can't see much of the crazy sheen in the photo except in the dark parts of the calligraphy, it REALLY sheens—everywhere—almost leaving a sort of metallic flake in those thicker, darker areas that crusts off if you rub it a bit. The sheen still remains, but that extra stuff comes off, leaving a flat green sheen. And when I say it's green, I mean, it's GREEN. Intense, lime, neon, spring, leaf, bright green. This is a pretty interesting combination of colors for a super-sheener and it's so Christmasy! Red and green. Holiday inky fun on steroids.

The gold things on the sides were supposed to be deer heads but the dang gold marker is just too coarse of a point for this kind of fine work at this size. Well, that's what this journal is all about. Just having fun and experimenting with the inks and pens and tools and seeing what happens. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't.

I opened my Hobbii crochet calendar and it's some delightfully soft and squishy-feeling merino yarn in a very pale pink. I guess we will be making some kind of kerchief/mini-shawl out of it. I do love the feel of this yarn! The calendar offering also came with some stitch markers, a measuring tape, and a dot-grid notebook which has a very cute pine cone and needles holiday design on the cover—the same design that was on the reusable ziplock bags from Advent week one. I'm going to be really excited about this notebook if it turns out to be fountain pen friendly, but I'm not holding my breath for that one. :)

I don't ever use Parallel specific inks in my Parallels, not because they aren't good ink, but the color choice I need simply isn't there. That said, I've rarely if ever had a problem with flow in Parallels with most inks from any brand. Parallels generally have good flow no matter what, and usually if it's dry in the Parallel it's going to be REALLY dry in any other pen I have. I just think this particular ink is dry, and probably could stand some white lightning the next time I use it. Stand by for day 19 (I did swatch cards ahead of time) as it is on the opposite end of the spectrum... super, super, super wet to the point I had a tough time controlling it. That one's going to need to be dried out with a bit of water, I think, if it's going to be useable in the future.

Just watch out not to drink the inks instead :D

Inkvent Madness, Day 16

Well, the spouse is back! We had a good time last night catching up on our chocolates and wine. He even brought me some extra wine mini bottles, and some lottery scratch cards (my guilty pleasure, thank the powers that be that I don't live in a state that sells them). One of my tickets was a $30 winner on a $3 card which is pretty good, and paid for all the cards, so we're not out any money, woot woot!

Did some last minute shopping errands this afternoon so I am almost ready for Christmas! I'm not normally this late, but it's been a weird year and I'm still trying to find my way back to normal. Normal? What is that, anyway???

Anyway, on to the ink of yesterday:

Spoiler

Tundra. It's like a truck. Or an SUV. Just very tough and manly and really really gray! I cannot really detect any color cast to it; it's just a medium, neutral gray. If anything it's slightly reddish but that may just be the lighting in here and in this photo. I kind of like this ink though, and it has some fun shading. I think next to shimmer, shading inks are my favorite and I like the color value variations you get with this one. Flow is pretty good, not dry in my Parallels, so that's nice.

The crochet advent is coming along well. The pattern is written in such a way that it appears super difficult, but it's honestly not that hard and they could have written it in a way that made it much easier to understand, as it's just a bunch of repeats of the same shell pattern and the foundation row for those shells. It's supposed to make a small kerchief, like a shawl but smaller. I think I'm going to get tired of the repetition by the time row 48 comes around and it's a mile long road of shell repeats. Sigh. And I'm not crazy about this color. I would have preferred something .... uh... not pale pink. Like, anything but pale pink.

The wine and chocolate were great and we got to double up two days on each thing. We're doubling up again tonight and then we're caught up to the ink calendar!

@Ashenden Tundra is an odd ink.  Trying to make up my mind as to what I think of it (it may be a little pale for me, but it's definitely an interesting color.

Thanks for doing this!
