Souveran M400 breakage

Hi all, sad M400 owner here. I've had the pen about 6-7 years and only used lightly.

The nib section has separated from the barrel section with no signs of what has happened. I've emailed Pelikan direct, and the UK distributors.

Any ideas on what's happened, and also getting it fixed.

Paul

Hi, this is unfortunate but you are not the only one who has experienced this problem, check also here:

Pelikan is probably aware of this particular problem so I hope that they provide you a proper repair.

If you are in the UK you could inquire at https://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk who is also active on this forum.

Hi,
I recently had my 1950s Pelikan 400 repaired beautifully (albeit not for the same problem that your M400 has suffered) by Pens Plus of Oxford:

https://pensplus.co.uk/pages/repairs-and-service

They quoted me a lower price - and a more-rapid turnaround - than the ones that were quoted to me for sending my pen back to Pelikan through the official UK distributor...
(in case anyone reading this doesn't know who that is, it is currently Stone Marketing of Tonbridge https://stonemarketing.com/services/pen-and-lighter-servicing/)

...but do bear in mind that the reverse may of course be true for the repair that your pen needs.

N.b. before you decided to send your M400 to any repairer, I urge you to check with them that you will get your pen's original barrel put back on to your pen, and NOT a replacement barrel from the current production line.
The current-production barrels don't (since 2022) have the transparency between the blue stripes any more!
(Which I regard as a profound reduction in utility, and a damn-fool-stupid thing for the company's previous owner to have done.)

I wish you all the best with the repair

Slàinte,
M.

m600 owner here, recently had the top finial break off the cap, appears to be stresses from the clip that did it. this is likely something that happened years ago when i'd take my pen into the office clipped in my jacket pocket. mine is a 30 yr old pen and i'm wondering if repairs on something like this are still a possibility, or have the years brought changes that make all that improbable?

"i spent roughly 20 years writing a journal that extended to some 35 volumes. at the end of it i'd written a bunch of words that ended relationships, filled up my closet, spent a river of ink and afforded me some excellent practice with fountain pens. out of all of that i kept a few pens. i believe the moral of this story is that volumes written may well just be an exercise in trying to find something to say."
