Iroful - odd feathering

Hi, all!

 

I was playing with sheets of Tomoe River and Iroful today.
What a strange kind of "feathering" that the Iroful sheet yielded!
Could it be micro-cracks in the coating that would produce such a strange result?

Same pens/inks on a Tomoe sheet look just fine.

The directionality of the feathering is interesting - generally paper fibers go every which way.  The idea of cracking in the surface sizing is interesting.  Extreme magnification might reveal something - or not...  I can only say I've never seen feathering on Iroful, but if I do, I'll try to remember and report back.

 

Do you have any reason to believe the sheet was damaged?  Or are multiple sheets doing this?  How about the other side of this sheet?
