Which pen should I get?

Right now I'm contemplating between the Pilot Custom 823, 743, or something with a integral nib.

The pens I have right now include the Vanishing Point/Capless, Lightive, and the Pilot 75G+. I'm worried that the 823 might be too big, is it similar in size to the Capless?

I don't know nor have anything japanese.

I can advise a nice standard sized pelikan 200...the nib is a nice springy regular flex...a tad more bounce from my readin gthan a Pilot 'soft' with half moon shoulders.

And new screw in nibs cost some €36........

Pelikan making a very dry 4001 ink has there for a wet nib.

And will be lots wider than the mis-marked Japanese......if you are willing to use a Japanese M, then a Pelikan EF/F would do.

Japanese nibs are designed for a tiny printed script. Pelikan and other western nibs are designed for a flowing cursive script.

If you are a printer stay Japanese.

..................

I personally would advise a used 6-7 years or decades older than modern Pelikan 200. Still perfectly good if it is one from 1985. I have a couple W.Germany pens from '85-91. And 5-6 from '91-to a few years ago...and a couple modern EF's.

I use to rave about those nibs for a whole decade; until they ruined a great nib with a double ball, for ball point users coming over to fountain pen, with no idea or the coordination to hold fountain pen properly. Ie Behind the big index knuckle, not in front like a ball point.

The older nibs have a teardrop tipping, that gives a nice clean line...Double ball tippings are fat and blobby, ie not that clean lined....so don't buy new.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I ran a pen comparison for you with the models you mentioned on the Jetpens website. You can look at pen weights and measurements and see what model is closest to the Capless, which I included in the comparison chart. I just used the first nib width that came up from each model, so disregard that and replace it with what you like.

Jetpens FP comparison chart- you can add or subtract pens while using it.
