Repaired my first nib

My daughter has discovered my Platinum Preppy Pens and just loves the .03 . She likes it much better than her Pilot Kakuno to the point that she takes the Preppy to school even though they are supposed to be using ballpoint pens (without clickers) only.

Anyway, she was heartbroken when the pen fell down nib first and bent inwards. She was resourceful enough to get it bent back enough to look almost like a falcon nib, but it was skipping a lot for her so she asked me to try to fix it.

I managed to get the tines straightened back out to the classic Platinum straight profile, and then tune the spacing between the tines to get an even flow once more. Yay! Happy Daughter.

The hardest part was removing the nib from the pen. I managed to yank out that feed and nib in the process, but that nib still held tightly on that feed. I ended up using an X-acto knife edge as a small wedge to get the nib to start moving. Once it started moving then I managed to just use finger strength to get it off the rest of the way.

Of course, this was a perfect time to find the truth in all Amazon reviews regarding that loupe that I had picked up last year: The batteries die even when the lights are not used, and that any attempt to remove that batteries result in all the pieces flying out. I spend more time looking for parts and batteries on the carpet than fixing the pen.
