Parker Nib feedback?

I have a vintage Parker 51 Aerometric. It has a noticeable amount of feedback. Perhaps not quite so far as to call it scratchy but certainly significant.

It is also very sensitive to rotation needing to be 'just right' to get a smooth (ish) writing experience.

Line-wise I feel it's probably a medium nib.

I feel like it's possibly not as good as it should be / could be, but I have never used another 51 to compare it with.

Would the above description be typical for one of these pens or does it perhaps require some attention?

I also have a Parker Sonnet, with a medium nib.

It is not without feedback, but is smoother than the aforementioned Parker 51.

In both cases I'm using Parker Quink blue-black ink.

Thanks - how would I go about doing that and (if not aligned) fixing it?

The correct way to check tine-alignment can be seen in this diagram:

That said, I personally would look through at the tines using a magnifying glass, or a Jewellers' Loupe.

As for how to re-align the tines of one's nib IF they are not aligned correctly, if I were you I would search for threads that discuss that on the 'Repairs Q&A' board here.

The best search to use is the Google Custom Search that is in a thread that is 'pinned' at the top of the 'Fountain Pens & Dip Pens - First Stop' board.

The url of the custom search engine is:

I would also advise you to try a different ink in your pens; my experience of modern Quink Blue/black is that for some reason it doesn't work as-reliably (in my Parker pens!) as the other colours of Parker Quink, which all have great physical/haptic properties (although Quink Black won't work at all in my Parker 45s 🤯).
It shouldn't ever make any nib feel 'scratchy', but I have found that it can make writing feel very dry, and a bit 'smeary'.

M.
