Anderson pens is closing

Just seeing this thread now (I was out of town most of the weekend and just logged onto FPN a few minutes ago).  Terrible news!  I met them a few years ago at a pen show, and then sat in front of Brian at the auction at another show.

I'd seen some cryptic comment in another thread about "this is the last time I'm ordering from them" (which seemed weird because the poster had had a good experience...).  Now I understand the strange post. :(

Yeah, good idea. Would be nice to give them some support

+1. I have been collecting pens for over 50 years, and many stores, dealers and magazines have ended their business in these years.I'm sad every time this happens but in this case, the hobby and the users are losing one of the most active and friendly dealers. In the message Andersons says they will be back in a different capacity, I wish them the best in the future.

I called them with a question about which sac to use on a Sheaffer Crest and got a quick response, then placed an order. I got a shipment noticed in maybe two hours. There is no mention of closing on the website.

His page on Esterbrook history is unsurpassed. I wish them well.

Just wanted to inform out repair fellas

Small town people always have colorful big metropolis dream but never realize the color is from bloody city war... 10.25% sales tax even the downtown Montblanc store hires nice looking lady to call their former customers every day...

ya but when you note that they have quality backing the repair items some of which are tougher to find you tend to overlook it

I have been doing business with Anderson's for a long time.  They are my go to source for a lot of repair supplies and a lot of other stuff.  You can count the number of errors on my many orders on the toes of one hand.

There was that one time...I placed an internet order.  30 minutes later (30 minutes!) I remembered that I had forgotten something so I called the store on the phone to see if it could be added.  No, I was told.  The box was already on a truck en route to the post office.

I am really going to miss Anderson's.

That's a crying shame.  Really terrible. I'm going to see if I can stock up on supplies for some Esterbrooks I've had hanging around.

Does any other company offer J-bars and similar sacs? I genuinely never looked, Anderson was always so good to do business with.  Are there any supplies that Anderson offers that aren't found elsewhere and would be good to stock up on?

I don't "need" anything but I can always find space for something.  Since ink samples are on sale for BF, why not snag a bag full of the ones I always wondered about.  I ended up with a list of 20 and thought "Well that's just overkill" so I pared it down to 16 and I comforted myself with the certainty that this is more sensible.  I need more ink like a bird needs a third wing.  I just don't know how else I could help out the Andersons at this time.  Regardless of how it has all happened, it does truly suck.  Hoping for a light at the end of this tunnel, good folks can find a way!

Good luck to the Anderson’s. Over the years I ordered a lot of Mylar and pen supplies from them. Always very knowledgeable and very pleasant. Real good folks. The best to them.

Given their status in the community I'm a little surprised the Pen Family didn't acquire the company. Maybe they tried and Anderson said no.

I had hoped to be able to order some converters from Anderson Pens (for several different brands) because they had a lower threshold to get free shipping than some other places -- but while I had looked awhile back, by the time I was ready to place the order they no longer had some of the ones I wanted on their website and eventually had to patronize another business (which had a higher "minimum" for free shipping, but was the ONLY place I found that had ALL the converters I needed: two Parker piston converters, two modern Sheaffer converters, and a Pelikan converter) in stock -- and ended up getting a couple of bottles of ink to put me over the higher threshold).  But of course, am sweating out what condition the bottles will be in, given the horribly cold weather we've had the past couple of days -- and that cold snap is continuing into next week (although, at least the order has reached the Pgh Network Distribution Center as of around 7:15 PM this evening), and that's only about 20 minutes north of me -- so hopefully will get down to the Main Pgh post office by Saturday (if not sooner), and then be out for delivery as scheduled by Monday....

I've bought from them on occasion, always had a good experience. I hadn't heard this news but stock seemed really limited the last few times I visited the site and I was thinking maybe things weren't going well there.

I didn't really "need" anything but I wanted to help in some small way.  They had to get stock out the door so every order did count.  I ended up making two outrageous orders for ink samples.  I figured that this was the time to check out all the inks I had considered but didn't already have in my "out of my frigging mind" ink collection  I would never use the heavy sheen monsters or the sparklers and the pastels I was no help with but I did end up with about 30 something samples which will actually get used,  Feel like I tried to help a bit.  Hope they can recover from all this stuff.  Makes you want to think twice before you sign another piece of paper, doesn't it?

I have a small quantity, but Pen Sac Company would be the better place to get those.
