Harry Potter Lamy's

Black Spot

Recommended Posts

I was sent a Email informing me that Lamy would be putting out a set of harry potter themed LAMY AL-star fountain pens.

The raven claw pen is a nice shade of blue with little feathers on it.

Slytherin has a snake on the side and is green.

The red  Gryffindor pen has some flames

and Hufflepuff is yellow with branches or a twig on it.

While Lamy makes a big secret out of it the pictures are already out in several online seller shops. Making people question the logic of the LAMY marketing division. 😄

And you used a greengrocer's apostrophe in the title @Black Spot. 😉

Fahrney's and Pen Boutique both just sent out email ads for the Harry Potten pens.  I'm a bit tempted by the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor pens, but the Ravenclaw one looks a fair amount like the Aquatic al-Star that came out earlier in the year.  So, I'd have to see a side-by-side on those.

Hmmmm.  Wondering if I'll get a chance this winter to go to the Lamy SoHo store in NYC and be able to look at them (I could bring my Aquatic along on the trip ).

Even though I'm thinking of selling my Al-Star collection I ordered them. Also to keep it up to date. I can give you a side by side comparison if you like @inkstainedruth.

Thanks!  That would be helpful because even if the colors are "off" in the photo (as compared to seeing them in person) because at least I'd get an idea about the two different pens as to the color....

I'm not really a "c-worder", so I don't have to do the Pokemon "gotta get'em all" mentality.  I told that to someone at a pen show a few years ago, before the Saturday night auction, about Vacumatics -- I like the colors I like (and even have TWO of the Azure Blue Pearls, in different sizes) but there are other colors I'm not remotely interested in....

Of course I'm STILL trying to figure out how I ended up with TWO black 51 Vacs -- both with the rolled gold caps with the blue diamond on the clip, and BOTH with the "T6" date code -- especially since I don't even remember GETTING the second one (found the box it was in, in a plastic tub in the living room awhile back, and the only difference between the two pens besides the second one having the box was that the second one also has a name engraved on it...).  Got that pen repaired at OPS over the weekend, along with the Cordovan Brown 51 Vac I paid a whole whopping $2 US (although I could supposedly say $3 and consider the Midnight 45 that was in the same box was only $1... (and still call the two spare press bar converters also in the box as being 50¢ apiece... ).  And I think those are SEPARATE from the black 51 Vac I got on eBay that I'd bid the minimum on and expected to get outbid on  (I'd just considered that I was getting the ball rolling because my focus was on the Plum Demi 51 the same weekend) and which had the cap for a 51 Special on it when it came (I was able to trade for a more correct cap at OPS that year).

I'm ready, @inkstainedruth. Here are pictures. Hope you can see the slight difference in coloring. I don't think these are production fluctuation. My guess is they got a colorcode for Ravenclaw by Warner Brothers and mixed a new blue. It's quite similar but a little bit lighter than the aquatic. The grip sections don't match. The Harry Potter edition is less saturated.

The colors for Griffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin are completely unique on pen and grip section and match no other edition. All pens come with clips in matching metallic effect colors.

Hope I could help. 🧐

Sure. Put black ink into the green one and it will produce the dark mark onto your forearm. The blue one corrects every mistake you make while writing. The yellow one will write everything you dictate to it... an spices it a bit up. 😉 But what does the red one do?

Well, isn't the red pen (which, admittedly looks orange in your photos) for Gryffindor?  Obviously that pen's job is to save the day....

Thanks for posting the color comparison between the Ravenclaw pen and the Aquatic.  They are very similar in color, but the different color clips and the engraved detailing on the Harry Potter series makes this one a serious maybe.

Hopefully, if I get to NYC this winter, I will have time to swing downtown to the Lamy SoHo store and take a peek at them in person.  Of course, I'm now rethinking the "Ehhhhh" response I initially had to the Hufflepuff pen :wallbash:  -- my wallet does NOT thank you....

YOu are right. That's the red one. 10 points!

I'm sorry for your wallet. I'm sorry for my wallet. 😂💸😥

Well, at least I'm not interested in the entire set....  That's a bit of a consolation for me, if not for you....

As a collector I had to get them all. Unfortunately, as with other manufacturers, “Special Editions” are now being released quite inflationary. I think that makes SEs less attractive.

Well, Safaris and al-Stars are nice writers -- a good value for the money (I really do NOT understand the people who sneer at "school pens" -- all of mine, and we're talking various brands & models, are good writers).

And I like the fact that Lamy's SE pens don't normally cost more than their regular lines (I expect that the engraved designs on these are what added to the price of the "Harry Potter" pens).  But I only buy ones where I like the colors (not remotely enamored, for instance, in the green one -- the "Slytherin" pen -- in this set).

The Safari pens IMO, are not school pens even if many young people use them. They are good writing instruments that the company offers in many colours to increase the target market. When they were introduced in the 80's of last century I don't remember any mention of pens for school. The price at that time was almost the same as the offer of the big companies.

Nonsense. The Safari was always advertized as a school pen. Especialy as the grip section forces the writer to hold it in the right way. Later the ABC came out for young beginners and the AL-Star for older students and the folk who still like the grip after school but want some grown-up touch.
