Hmmm.  Because of the shadow in the one photo, it's hard to tell if that 51 is Plum or Black.  That was the trouble I had at an estate sale a few weeks ago.  The sale was in an apartment building, and they were only letting about a dozen people in at a time.  The desk pens were in the apartment, so there was a lot of light.  But the non desk pens were on a table in the hallway, outside the apartment itself, and the lighting was just TERRIBLE.  Even using the flashlight app on my phone, I couldn't tell whether the pens in a ziplock bag were Burgundy or Plum (for the 51 Aerometric) and Burgundy or Cordovan Brown (for the 51 Vac) -- don't remember what the other two 51s in the bag were....  And $50 US would have been a great price for the one pen if it HAD been Plum -- but meh (at best) if it had been Burgundy; likewise, $45 would have been an good  price if the 51 Vac had been Cordovan Brown (and an okay price if it was Burgundy, IME) -- but I'd paid five bucks a week or two before at another estate sale for a Parker 45 (press bar converter installed) plus two ADDITIONAL press bar converters, AND what may be a Cordovan Brown 51 Vac -- so, $45 vs. effectively $2 for the 51 Vac I'd just bought?  Not willing to take the risk in the terrible lighting....  Especially since at the previous sale I had gone specifically to look at the 45 and just knew that there was some other pen under it in the box in the photo....  (The estate sale people thought I was crazy for not taking the little silver color BP that one of them said was a Cross pen that was also in the box; but if they sell that for 50¢ to someone, they'll STILL have made more money for the client than otherwise....)

I always wonder how the estate sale companies decide on the prices of stuff they've been hired to sell -- and even more so, now that I spent four hours Friday evening helping a friend and his son set up a family run sale of his mothers stuff....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Hmm, Montblanc Kafka with Sailor Manyo Ume, although I saw a Pelikan M6xx for sale years ago that was a dark transparent red with a metal cap iirc, that or a Farney's Mars M205.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Probably a Sailor KOP Wicked Witch of the West with some sort of interesting nib grind.  I always wanted to try a KOP, purple is my favorite color, and I love Sailor's ion plated hardware.  I would probably use it with my favorite purple ink, Noodler's North African Violet.

Other options might be a Pelikan M805 Blue Dunes or one of the blue, Montblanc Origin Collection (maybe a 149 since I already own a 146).  I tried them out in Milan and they were quite beautiful in person.  The blue resin has a lovely, subtle swirl pattern in it.  For blue inks, I've been loving Sailer Seiboku but with these pens, I might have to seek out a more true blue ink.

A big bulky Mont Blanc with an Italic flex nib where I can go and sit with an expert nib grinder and get the nib exactly as I wanted it.

For ink, I really have no idea what ink I would put in it but, money is no object so I could get either Pilot or Diamine to make up a lovely turquoise with real gold flakes in it to give it some bling, preferably at least 1 gallon of the stuff! Along with a really cute Lady who would know exactly how to clean and refill my pen!!

Then, I would go and spend a month at least with someone like Ken Fraser or Joe Vitolo and sit for in person, one on one, lessons on improving my hand writing.

The Hemingway I should have bought for $600 brand new in front of me at the store the week it came out.

For the ink, I like sapphire and greeny-blues and am not too particular among a dozen enjoyed.

My ironic edge requires me to suggest finding Organics Studio Masters of Writing Ernest Hemingway Santiago's Sea Blue

if i get that pen.

It was a few years before i was ready to splurge, when i was ready the Writer's were commanding $1,000 brand new.

Still would have been worth it in 1992.

One of the Parker 51s that I already own and use, especially my Midnight Blue (aero) with the US medium nib. Tuned just after I bought it more than fifteen years ago. Perfect.

I would like the new Prussian blue Pilot Custom Urushi coming soon, with an italic fine nib and the new Rikka ink.

I’m with you @Penguincollector.  I just got to try this pen in Nagasaki and it is absolutely beautiful!

Unfortunately… money is an issue.  If it wasn’t, I would be bringing one home.

I just looked at it again this morning.  It is such an elegant blue.  The price is quite good here but, alas, not good enough.

The gold version lives in my igloo. I am on the lookout for the silver toned one.
