This is Italic, right?

Fountain pens are meant to be written with using a feather touch. If you have been using a pencil or ballpoint for years, they require more pressure. That forms bad habits than are a challenge to overcome - personal experience!

With a semi-flexible nib, writing with a heavy hand can push the nib away from the feed and prevent normal ink flow. That could be your problem. With a very stiff nib - for instance a Pelikan M800 - that may be less of an issue.

David

I usually let the nib glide over the paper.  Maybe I am trying too hard with the cursive-italic nibs though!

I cannot wait until I have real time to dedicate again to practicing Italic.!

I thought so but didn't say anything. I have seen examples in books and on-lines with that done on purpose though!  I can't remember how.  Maybe with two nibs at the same time.

You can achieve the double line effect by writing with two pencils taped together. Osmiroid did make a special "scroll" nib for this effect. Kaweco still makes one.

Here is an uncial alphabet written with a scroll nib.

Thanks!  Unical is slowly growing on me 😉

I wrote lighter with both the nibs and it wrote better but like all the italic nibs and pens I have, not dark enough 🙂

Nobody writes letters any more! I know all the experts on handwriting suggest that in order to revive handwritten letters but I think some people just think it's weird to receive letters out of the blue, or arrogant/show off.

🤣  LOTS, and I mean LOTS of people still write letters. Check out the Snail Mail Topic here on FPN.

Then you have specific websites like A World Of Snail Mail that are for pen pals. Home | A World of Snail Mail

Sure, a person starts out a stranger at first but then over time you get to know one another. I have learnt about different cultures, habits, people, interests etc from my pen pals, and they were all people that I did not know even existed before finding them on pen pal sites including the Snail Mail forum on FPN here.

I have 13 pen pals that are in constant communication and about 8 others that are sporadic. And no one ever thinks that some one is being arrogant or showing off! We communicate because it is fun and we like to practice with and use our different pens and inks.

Good stuff Stompie!  Very encouraging!  Thank you so much!

I wish my expensive Sailors and Pilots, etc.. had interchangeable nibs!! Live and learn! 🙂

There is one of those nibs I knew I saw sometime and was trying to tell dms about but couldn't think of their name (manuscript).

The last model produced, using the Easy Change" nibs, will work with a Waterman converter. I assume it would also take Waterman cartridges. Those are readily available.

I happened to have a box of Waterman Serenity Blue long cartridges and am writing away now with the nib that was attached. I haven't tried other nibs.  I am going to look for Waterman Black ones now.

So cool!!!

I found another example that I would like to be able to write Italic like.  Gotta figure out how to get started and what is used.  I know, it is not handwriting sized but that is okay for something like this.

I sometimes am curious (okay, always!) about what what these "masters" and master penman's personal handwriting looks like! 🙂  I have a copy of Jake Weidmann's Lord's Prayer that he did using Copperplate, white ink on black, framed and hanging in my dining room.  It's pretty hard to decipher in places but that is how Copperplate is sometimes for me.  I have taken part of a on-line flourishing class and watched his videos but I haven't seen how his handwriting is.  Same for Sheila Waters, Suzanne Cunnningham, and others work that I enjoy looking at.

I mean, with a regular fine point nib either fountain pen or ballpoint 🙂
