@Seney724 But, of course!  That is the simple, elegant solution.  I have never had occasion to ask at a Montblanc boutique; I certainly hope they would oblige if conditions warranted.

I believe Montblanc does not return any parts, so as to not build franken pens or fake ones.

@maia Thank you for confirming my supposition.  In my earlier reply to @CS388 I had not considered the potential for fraud regarding loose Montblanc nibs, a chastening thought.

Ah, I hadn't thought of the nib being put to nefarious use.

I often tinker with my pens and quite fancied having an extra #9 nib in my parts box.

Thanks to NoType and maia for the information.

(I will also inquire about the availability of O3B for The Origin 149 through the Complimentary Nib Exchange Program, as you asked about in the 100th Anniversary Editions thread.)

I can confirm that the O3B nib is available for the 149 Origin.  I am receiving mine nib through the complimentary nib exchange program and my friend has already received his for this pen.

My boutique (and various retailers), in Canada, have not asked for a receipt for any of my exchanges and I assume it is because they have an electronic record of my transaction.  So I wonder if this would be an option for someone who does not have access to their receipt especially since these pens are serial numbered?

I don’t understand if you are purchasing a nib from Montblanc why you need to send the one being replaced back?

@DimitriDiak Essentially, it seems that Montblanc intends to prevent a situation in which an “orphaned” nib might be mounted to an inauthentic pen body to fool others into mistaking the pen as the genuine Montblanc article.  Just four posts up thread, @maia puts it more succinctly.

@DimitriDiak Thank you for this confirmation.  The local boutique manager called me back to confirm this to me.  Head to the the second to the last page of the “100th Anniversary editions” thread to view @maia’s live photo of their recently arrived The Origin 149 with O3B nib plus a side-by-side comparison of it and a 149 from 2013 with B nib.

@DimitriDiak This is very interesting.  @dbs reported a similar experience with the Texas service centre.

You pose a very good question.  It seems logical that electronic records could be the reason why you have not been asked to produce proofs of purchase for complimentary nib exchanges and might be an option for those not in possession of a receipt or stamp from an authorised retailer, but my local boutique continues to require a receipt or stamp for complimentary nib exchanges, at least from me on the past three dozen occasions.

I guess I find this difficult to accept … so in that case you can’t “buy” a nib only exchange one for another from MB.  OK thanks so much for the clarification.

Interesting!  It might just be their policy but I love to ask them if they have access to their electronic receipts.  I can’t see where my Boutique has stamped my card.  I should ask them how that works, to clarify my assumption.  Thank you for following up.

@DimitriDiak Both were my pleasure.
