Esterbrook "Back to the Land" fountain pen & its strange cap

I recently bought an Esterbrook "Back to the Land - Funky Lake" fountain pen.  It is a beautiful teal blue color.  This is my second Estie - I bought an Estie Jr. a year ago and loved the pen and its nib.  I really like my new pen a lot, but there is a strange thing built into the cap.  When you put the cap over the nib, you run into a bit of resistance because there is some kind of spring loaded cover for the nib, inside the cap.  I find this new "thing" just a bit annoying because you have to consciously push the pen into the cap.  Am I the only one out here that is not fond of this feature?  I am guessing that perhaps the nib is less likely to dry out with this new inner cap?  Just curious what others think about this.  I have thought of perhaps pulling the inner cap and spring out of the cap, but I guess that would be stupid.

Yes, it is to prevent the nib from drying out and works extremely well.  I would think you will get used to it quickly and don't recommend removing it.

I'm surprised the Jr. doesn't have one.

Thanks for your reply.  The Estie Jr. may have the inner cap, it's hard to tell, but it is not spring-loaded.  Probably because is is a shorter pen.  So what I dislike is having to push the pen into the cap.  But I promise not to take out the inner cap and spring!  Thanks,
