London pen show

Dropped into the London pen show & got a couple of montegrappa nibs tuned byJose Munera. Glad they're working now.

Now looking at pen storage solutions. I've got enough pens. Just need a case or box to put them in.

The show's very busy.

Have a look on Aliexpress they have some nice multi draw pen storage boxes that are quite reasonably priced.

The pen cases at the London Pen Show had extortionate prices. I made them myself from vintage boxes found in antique stores and posh candy boxes 🙂

I use genuine leather and canvas 48 loop zippered pen cases from Aliexpress that are sold for less than $20 US. I have 5 and I just ordered another canvas one as my preferred leather ones are out of stock. There’s plenty of PU “leather” ones available.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

So, I switched froth ebroad nib to the medium nib in the Montegrappa Elmo 01.

And this newly tuned nib is writing like a dream now - better than the tuned broad one. Previously it was all skips and not much ink flow ink. An irritaing writing experience.

Now, it's writing as well as my MBs.

So, if you have any irritating nibs, instead of buying a new pen take it to a pen show and get it tuned.

Incidentally, the Montegrappa Elmo does have swappable nibs, and you can buy seperate (MG branded) nibs for £50 or less. Unfortunately, both nibs were tight and needed a tune up to be useable.

I thought the pen storage was a bit pricey at the pen show, so I didn't buy any. In the past I have bought a 48 slot canvas epn holder which holds the medium and small pens - a variety of FPs, matching ball points and mechanical pencils. I may well get another one of those.
