EFNIR: Pilot Mixable Colour Red

Recommended Posts

Carènes are beautiful! Ihave been looking at the blue ones for awhile now. There’s a woman in my pen club that has a collection in a few different colors, including red, orange, and green. I’m a big fan of inlaid nibs and find them utterly gorgeous.

Top 5 of 20 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Parker “51” Desk pen EF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Yiren Giraffe IEF, Pilot Yama-Guri/sky blue holographic mica

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Well another fantastic review!

Thanks!

what is the “penmanship” a pen option or just being exact about your writing?

The Prera doesn't come with an EF nib, so I swapped the EF nib from my Pilot Penmanship (a model of pen) into the Prera.  I prefer writing with the Prera over the other Pilot steel nib offerings.

This color could become my favorite red? 😍 must try.

🤩🥳

:) It is very nice.  Just be sure to note its limitations: as far as I know, it only comes in cartridges, and it's not the best-behaved unless you dilute it a bit.  I'd start with 1 part water to 5 parts ink - if you find it's misbehaving.

:) Yeah, something about them is very appealing.  But the only one I can find at close to a reasonable price is black with silver trim, at $172, but with a medium nib - which I suspect would be too broad for me...   (This can be a blessing in disguise - I'll just keep it on my "want" list until I die. :D )

Thanks for the heads up.  I didn't realize that the Mixables were only in cartridges (I had looked into them early on but got sidetracked by all the other inks out there).

Of course, it COULD give the excuse to buy a Parallel or two....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

That’s a really good price! I hope someday you sumgai one in a color you like.  In the meantime, Pen Heaven has a fine for $155.

That is a really nice red.  I may have to get a sample of it to see how it compares to my "go to" red ink, Diamine Classic Red.

Thanks for the review, as usual.  And, well, maybe not....

You should have a look at the new 60th anniversary from diamine WAX SEAL.

Took me a minute to figure that one out.  Here's a link for others.  It's a red ink named "Wax Seal", in celebration of Diamine's 160th anniversary.  Looks like a nice, bright red.

:) Do you know that there are businesses (at least two, I think), that send you stories this way?  You subscribe and they mail you letters that tell the story.  It looks like there's a little more to it - like one is a mystery and they send you things that are supposed to be clues (photos and ticket stubs and such).  Of course, they're all mass produced, so it wouldn't be a hand-written letter, but it still seems like a cool idea.

Sorry about the anxiety. Hope the coloring helps.  I find I don't like the look of coloring with a fountain pen - maybe I'm not using the right paper for it...  I do Zentangles sometimes, but I enjoy the puzzles more, and Zentangles can take a lot of time, especially if you're trying to learn a new tangle.

:lticaptd:Shame on you! I think if I ever get another pen, it will be a Waterman Carene.  I don't know why, but I seem mildly obsessed with it, even though I don't especially like the shape.  I suppose it's because I have no inlaid nib pens, and of the ones in current production that I've seen, it's the one I like the best.  If only they would make the body with interesting colors. :(

Get one with a stub.  Your excess ink will vanish in a paragraph.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thanks!  I'm surprised at how cheap shipping appears to be from the UK.  Stop tempting me!! :D

 I kinda doubt I'd like it.  My CM and my Nemosine 0.6mm are the only stubs I really like.  Even my Nemosine 0.8 is too broad for me.  Maybe with a really dry ink it would be OK, but I think I'm gonna stick with those two.

Not the most appealing name. Now, I'm thinking of red ear wax in someone's ears :D

@LizEF I don't know, but for some "obscure" reason, I believe that @Penguincollector lives in Antartica and hence no maple :lticaptd:

:lticaptd: Now that maple tree has become really, really big, to be seen from both Canada and Antarctica!  It must be on the equator, with branches extending ridiculously far...  It's a wonder we ever see the sun at all! :D

@LizEF here's another M nib on Ebay, cheaper ;) :D

:gaah:

I'm going to have to delete this thread or we'll all be broke and have more Carenes than @Sailor Kenshin! ;)

I think I'd rather have a fine nib, @yazeh.  Also, not sure I'd trust an eBay pen...

Well let's all settle on Maple Syrup and the sweetness of which binds us all :)

I knew there would be no danger, otherwise I would not have posted the link maybe ;)
