Possibly the price 49 shillings and 6 pence or £2 9 shillings and 6 pence in old money.

Probably wrong though 😕

Digits with a slash reminds me to prices that were given in pounds/shillings/pence in the pre-decimal British or Australian currency.

But a web search learns me that 20 shillings equals 1 pound so 49 shillings might be a bit steep for a Parker 45.

Or "Two pounds nine and six" as we would have said back then. This also dates the pen to around 1969 or before. Parker used chalk marks in both the old and new currencies on the run-up to "Decimal Day" which was 15 February 1971. The decimal equivalent to 49/6 was £2.47 1/2.
