Apparently there will be a Lamy 2000 in green.

Now we know.  Too rich for my blood (even if I accidentally “tuned” my fine to start writing like a fat medium).

Prolly writes the same as the black version.

Add lightness and simplicate.

The different Lamy 2000 colors we’ve seen the last few years are what most other brands offer in a standard lineup. I like a couple of them but not nearly enough to pay the LE premium. If they ever priced these like the standard model I’d be much more likely to buy.

I really like it, at more than 3 times my max budget per pen, as expected, I'll admire it from afar.

And if you follow that link you will see that the pen in sold out.
I find it hard to argue with Lamy’s marketing.

I don’t say that I even like that color or wanted to buy the pen.  If the Red version was rereleased I might reconsider the cost-to-desire ratio.

I have occasionally put on one navy blue and one black sock in the morning. And so...

I hope, one day, to meet a Lamy 2000 collector who confuses the black, brown and green versions 🙂

Too many pens, too little time!

I received an email from Stilo e Stile yesterday about it being available to order.  Out of curiosity, I checked a few other vendors that carry Lamy products, some listing as “Out of Stock.”  Appelboom had it listed in stock, then took down the listing.  When I checked back later it was back up on Appelboom’s website, and it’s down again today. Their site didn’t indicate “Out of Stock.”  Stilo e Stile’s site this am has it listed, without a comment on being in or out of stock, however, there’s a button to be notified when it becomes available. Perhaps there have been supply issues?

I just received two of the new Pine Green Lamy 2000 fountain pens, both with fine nibs, which was all that was available from NYC Lamy online, and standard shipping (FedEx) was free and rapid.  The retail price is $540, which I paid for each.  Many of the other online retailers show it but are out of stock.  As I already had two standard black Lamy 2000s, each with an OM nib, I swapped one of those OM nibs with the Green 2000’s F nib, an easy thing to do without any tools (as mentioned above by Mercian).  Now, I have a Green with OM, Green with F, Black with OM, and Black with F.  I’ve had great writing experiences with my black 2000s, so I expect the same here.

Lamy is not the only pen maker to create artificial scarcity to enhance the price point.  Pens are not the only products subject to artificial scarcity.  Value is subjective.  Earlier special edition colors of the 2000 (such as the blue Bauhaus edition) now sell on eBay and pen shows for far above their original retail price.  At the same time, I acknowledge that the black and green versions are otherwise identical, except for the color and the green version’s serial number, which is on the side of the clip opposite the side that says “Lamy."

Also, as already shown, there are several things that come with the pen, including a nice bottle of green ink, a book about the designer of the 2000, and a nice notebook for writing.  The presentation overall is nice for a special/limited edition pen.

False scarcity is one thing,  pretending over 5000 pens is scarce is another.  The last 2 browns i saw actually sell went for under 400

Oh, what kind of green ink is it? Regular Lamy green, or a special edition?

The ink is designated as “T53, Crystal Ink.”

Excellent point.  But the Blue version, from what I’ve seen, sells at a much higher price than when first issued.

So tired of these lazy limited editions.  I love LAMY but they are truly fleecing their customers.  $100 more would be exorbitant.  $200+ dollars more is just offensive.   I could understand if there were precious metals involved, hand craftsmanship, etc.   Sailor does the same but their markup seems to be way less.

Don’t even get me started on the Urushi dialog 3 pens…something no one asked for and no one is buying at $2-3k.

Lamy sold a metal L2000 as a limited edition for a certain anniversary, is now available on a regular base. They were called different but if you don't have both, side by side, it is almost impossible to say which is the anniversary.

The Millennium Edition of the 2000 has a black makrolon portion of the section. The stainless steel version is all stainless steel.  I’ve had both. They are visually different.

Thanks for the information.  When the pens are capped, are there other differences that the engraving? Limited editions of Lamy 2000 are, up to now, four: Millenium. Blue, Brown and Green; and one very exclusive Red pen that was sold in an auction.

I think Lamy are doing nothing wrong here. I have quite a few Lamy 2000s including the wood versions of the ballpoint, but it seems to me the special editions are being targeted at a particular market. I don't *need* them. And they don't come along all that often.

I would be far more concerned if they came up with a bright shimmer pink 2000, for instance. That would really be a blasphemy. The nice thing with the special editions is that they are still sombre and in line with the black/grey palette of the original. And the original is still (though more expensive than when I got mine) a classic workhorse pen for a reasonable price.

LAMY cannot fleece its customers for something that is far, far less than a necessity; and, let's face it, who (but me) starts with a (perhaps, or arguably, over-priced) limited edition as their first LAMY 2000 on account of good reviews and/or recommendations from fellow hobbyists in “the community”?

We live in a capitalist and consumerist society; and if you have a want to satisfy, it makes sense that someone profits (to their satisfaction) from an offer they make to plug that gap or scratch that itch for you. It's not a “cooperative” endeavour to use the manufacturers' know-how and resources to bring joy and gratification to as many consumers as possible, all without the latter feeling they've been “held over a barrel” on account of their desires that are understood by the supply side.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I agree with amk and A Smug Dill.  If a particular pen, whether limited-special edition or not, is not “worth it” to you, then no one is making you buy it.  In this case, if Lamy is wrong about the market for a $540 Pine Green 2000, then Lamy and its retailers will “suffer.”  They will respond to a negative market, if any, by offering the pen at meaningful discounts until the pens already made are sold to customers.  We see this all the time with other pens that remain in stock too long.

I don’t disagree with any of these points. Just sad it’s Lamy because they are known for offering a quality product at a fair price.  It would be like Toyota selling a limited edition car for twice the price based on color.  Nothing wrong just disappointing for a value based company.

I’m sure the pen will be great bc the 2000 is already wonderful.
