At least one person in our facebook group will bring some pens for you to try@TWH.

Are you feeling better @Penguincollector?

Unfortunately,  my fever is climbing and I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I think it’s Covid (tests are in the mail) so I’ll err on the side of caution and keep my sickness away from everyone else. I’ll see y’all next month and at the bazaar.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

I hope it subsides quickly! I wasn’t feeling well enough to make the PDX Pelikan Hub but I will be making it to the meet this Sunday.

@TWH I saw @fireant’s post in the Facebook group and will bring pens for you to try. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday! I also highly recommend checking out Oblation when you come into town and asking to dip test pens they have on hand, they’re very welcoming and I bought my first fountain pen, a TWSBI 580, from them after dip testing.

Pilot Falcon all the way.

It's a great pen, it will give you some line variation and last for years and years.

Have to give this a +1.  Pilot metal Falcon was my second pen, acquired a little over 12 years ago and still in my rotation going strong.  The thing ALWAYS starts right away  no matter how long it's sat around, pleasantly springy and though it doesn't give a lot of line variation, it's there if you really want it.

FWIW I reckon a Parker 45 is the ideal choice.

Last forever, cartridge/collector, easy nib change to try out different widths/styles, relatively cheap and easy to find.

Nothing to lose.

I love my 45s. Octanium or gold, in every color and width, they are fun writers. I love their silhouette, and Parker cartridges last forever. You can go super casual with the Arrow, and super formal with the Insignia, or exotic with the Harlequin.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped me at the PDX club today. It was amazing to hold that many pens, see that many inks, and try so many papers. I am truly grateful. It has really opened my eyes to the near endless possibilities. I am already placing orders for multiple items. The proverbial Pandora’s box has been opened…

I will have to take a look. The Parker 45 isn’t even a little on my radar. Thank you for the suggestion.

i know nothing about the Pilot Falcon, I will also be adding this to my list. It’s another unknown to me that sounds promising.

So what did you place orders for? I know it's exciting, but from experience don't buy too many at once. Space things out so you can learn and enjoy the new pen before it's competing with others. I know I've often had too many new ones at once.

Oh, I had one with my yesterday, but it's behaving badly and is not a delight at the moment.

Great to meet you yesterday! But now you gotta pay the piper by telling us what you ordered (and posting pictures when they arrive).
