Ranga- Adjustment Made. Beautiful performance

Greetings fellow pen enthusiasts. I recently purchased a Ranga 4A new out of stock (NOS) eyedropper fountain pen. Customer service was excellent, patient and professional. All my questions were answered. Shipping was fast and easy.

The pen is a very simple design with clean lines. It is made with an acrylic body with ebonite, feeds, section, cap and finial. It is a beautiful pen (see attached photos). Nicely balanced and surprisingly light for it’s size. Very comfortable and a pleasure to use. It holds an enormous amount of ink. It had a surprisingly smooth steel medium Indian nib. It also came with an extra fine steel nib and feed.

It would not write consistently and was a very dry writer out of the box. After removing the feed and nib I gave it a good cleaning with dish washing liquid soap and water, now it wrote too wet...Time to adjust.........

I began tinkering with the feed and nib to adjust the flow. It wrote much better, but still started to leak from the feed after a few sentences. The pen burped ink... especially towards the end of the ink supply (this is not unusual). The pen also seemed to begin to leak at the threads section where the it met the body of the pen. Even with silicone grease it still leaked after a few minutes. The pen was like a fire hose………...more tinkering needed…….. no need to return it.

After a lot of experimentation, I finally used some packing material (wrapped medical tape, friction fitted it into the hole in the section. I then sealed the exterior of the packing material and section with wax to keep it in place. Punched a small hole in the wax coating on the packing tape using a syringe....presto! Added a rubber O ring at the section......presto!

This seemed to do the trick! The flow of ink going into the feed (see attached photos) was finally reduced…..some tinkering with the feed and nib to adjust the flow.

Voila!!!!!! Pen writes consistently well and does not leak or burp! The beauty of this fix is that I can still remove the packing material and wax seal and adjust as needed. Love my Ranga!
