New Wing Sung model w/ #9 Nib

Dan Carmell

Recommended Posts

I was given some photos of the next Wing Sung high-end pen. It features a #9 14K nib, so perhaps that’s all I need to say!

It is clearly a large pen—the pen without the cap weighs 44.5 grams. It appears to be a titanium alloy (not confirmed). It is a piston filler and the nib is in a screw-in nib unit. And that’s about all I know so far!

Available within a month, apparently.

EDITED to add:  Vendor tells me there will be both steel and 14K gold nibs available for this pen. No pricing revealed yet.

Dan I would like to thank you for assiduously sharing so many of the latest pens coming out from China; I really enjoy seeing what's next even though I restrain my urge to purchase!

A metal pen from Wing Sung and available with a gold nib, very, very nice !

I love Fountain Pens, with hooded nib in the classic style, Parker 51/61 type .

It’s an 18k nib, I got that wrong. Half that is a lot for a steel nibbed pen, unless people decide is equal to a Leonardo or the equivalent. $200 would be a lot but better. It’s very spendy and I’m pretty conflicted at this point!

Love that big nib. Wouldn't that be a bit of a heavy pen though? Like the Jinhao X159 all metal. Loved it but it was a club to handle.

You haven't handled a Kaweco Supra have you?  You could use the thing as a Kubotan.

The entire pen body is likely too heavy for me to be comfortable with, but I am curious if the nib has the same kind of springiness and bounce as the King of Pen nib or if it’s just a large size nail.

Judging by Jun Lai/Wing Sung’s previous gold nibs, I expect something rather stiff. My EFs have long tines but only one shows anything like bounce or a hint of flex. They are also offering a heartbeat #9, but I have to say it isn’t attractive to me—the shape of the nib is a bit different (or the lack of engraving makes it appear different to me). And the gold heartbeat nibs, in my limited experience, show no flex to speak of.

‘Shanghai Knife Dude’ has a YouTube review up and one photo shows the pen body only (no cap) at 44.5 grams, on the heavy side for sure, considering the Asvine V169 body is about 33 grams.

I have one lol. I use it as the pocket pen for that very reason lol. And you are correct. A long time ago, I purchased a Jinhao Dragon. I had never held such a weapon. It now sits in my display case as it is a literal pain to write with.

I was hoping theyd have a steel nibbed version to make it more affordable...maybe down the line?

I’ve heard yes to that but it’s word of mouth so who knows?
