Fountains pens with the length (unposted) and girth of the Lamy Aion?

As a mainstream reference, I use the girth of the 4 color Bic ballpoint.

I find my Aion gives me wonderful writing comfort.

I like c/c fillers with a smooth line from nib to back, unposted.

Flat tops are preferred and I also like rounded caps (Waterman Phileas).

Silver/Steel color clips and adornments are preferred.

All suggestions are appreciated, especially with shared pictures and/or experience with nibs behavior ( I like European bold nibs), I would not mind a fancy nib (not European) that gives me a bold, wide line and juicy flow.

I don't have one of them, having a Studio*, so I would need a measurement or two.

* and a long barrel desk pen Joy, Safari, and a Persona.

Bo Bo, this is one of the most comprehensive review of the Aion, I am aware of.

As luck would have it, the review contains a  picture of the Aion placed between a Studio and a Pelikan 805.

https://www.pencilcaseblog.com/2018/03/lamy-aion-fountain-pen-review-giveaway.html

Am I mistaken to think that you own Pelikan(s) in the 800 series?

If so, could you describe your experience by comparing the Studio to the 800's?

Are you aware of a c/c Pelikan fountain pen with the girth and length of the 800's piston fillers?

A montblanc 146 is close. The Pelican m400 or m600 will come close.

Diplomat excellence should also work.

From memory, the Pelikan P40 ‘Pura’ c/c pen is about the same size as an M80x.

It is made from aluminium (so is lightweight), with areas of coloured anodised aluminium on its body & cap, and with a shiny grip section.

The colours are all-silver, black, anthracite, dark blue, petrol blue, red (they call it ‘Bordeaux’), green, and ‘mocha’ brown.

https://www.pelikan-passion.com/int/writing/elegance/pura

I’ll have a dig around and see if I can find actual measurements for it.

Edit to add:

So far, I have only managed to find the following (by clicking through to Pelikan’s page for any particular colour of Pura):

Size: 13,8 cm with writing tip

Weight: 35 g including refill

In comparison, uncapped my M800 is 126mm long (capped it is 141mm).
Pelikan says that an M800 is 28.2g.

Detailed dimensions of the Lamy Aion can be found at:

M.

As mentioned the 'new' 7-8 year old Pura cartridge pen may be something.

I don't have one. I think outside a Pelikano....WwQ4DJX.jpgthe only cartridge pens I have in Pelikan are two Celebries, the gold and the steel nibs are = good, and a 381 gold nibbed pen also =.

The second from the top is a Celebry, and the third is the 381...both marbled green patterns are slightly different. the nibs steel or gold nib are equal to the '90's-97 400/600 or the '85-now 200. Springy regular flex.

Those two are thinner than you want.

The thin Celebry is 38g (:o). The 381 is 23g and lighter than I thought....and on that pen Ancient Copper lives up to it's name of the max crud on a nib. I'd have to really look at the tone and shading of Ancient Copper to know if it's worth the crud. Or it will get tossed...ah, ha, I'll be mean and sell it at a flea market....:bunny01:

I have a Waterman Mann 200 that is  30g. It is supposedly a bit thinner than the Waterman 100.  So look at some sort of Waterman that is Mann 100 thick. The F nib - EF on two of my Pelikan 200's.

A picture of my green pens and that one thatl ooks white is green.

kzJY24b.jpg

I just laid my 805 next to the Studio...@ the same length but the Studio is near outlined if the 805 is held under it.

Studio with empty converter 34g/1.3oz....29g/1.0oz for the 805 with some ink in it.

Seeing how I never weighed nor compared either of these two pens; the slightly thinner, and it is slightly, Studio feels more nimble than my 805.

A 146 weighs 25ml, vs 29 for the 805. the 805 is a hair wider and one notices it.

I think of the 146 @ '90, (have 2 large, and one medium-large '48-59 146 which is a greatly balanced pen) as stately...not at all nimble...I think of the 800 as clumsy (have two...did grow up in the era of standard sized pens.).

That extra weight does explain the difference in the feel  of the stately MB and clumsy Pelikan. The '90's MB OB/OBB eyeball only...is much wetter than the OBB Pelikan post 2000.

I don't know if that wetness is for all MB's. My other wide MB is a B=BB Virginia Woolf.

Sandy101, thank you, is the Diplomat a pen or a brand?

Mercian, thank you for the Writing Desk reference and finding the Pura, unfortunately, it has a tiny step, right at the wrong place.

Bo Bo, wouldn't you know it, my eyes focused on the Toledo, which, I suspect is an LE.

Do you know if a purple, blue or pink Toledo was ever made?

Diplomat is a German brand.

Thank you, in the U.S, they are distributed by the Yafa family of brands.

I went to the website, most of the fountain pens in those brands have a step between the body and the section which is a not for me.

I did find out about their nib units available for sale, by themselves, and Monteverde Core Rose Pink ink.

The Classic M205 Apatite is right up my alley color wise, is it the same size as the Pelikan Cities Collection?

No, the Cities collection is 600 in size. And a bit rounder in the barrel...some said one couldn't post with them. I always wanted The Grand Place...market square of Brussels. It never got cheaper, just more expensive.

The 200 is a 400 size pen. The 400 is made with with a slightly better plastic, but both balanced the same. ...Very well posted.

I don’t think that any such Toledos have ever been made 😔

Here is a link that shows all the M800-sized Toledos:

https://www.pelikan-collectibles.com/en/Pelikan/Models/Souveraen-Series/M900-M910/index.html

Do though also look under the ‘MODELS’ drop-down list, then ‘Souveraen Series’, then ‘M800 Basis’.
And under ‘MODELS’ > ’Limited & Special Editions’ > ‘Special Edition Toledo’.

There are also some smaller Toledos (produced in the M400 size), which can be found on that site by opening the ‘MODELS’ drop-down list, then selecting ‘Souveraen Series’, then ‘M700 Basis’.

Caveat lectrix - before you open it, you must be warned that that website is a veritable warehouse of Temptation… 😉

The still make Toledo's, and are not "limited" by number. But how many are made by the fine craftsman/men. Don't know if it's Quota or by this year's estimated request.

Would be cheaper to buy used...I think.

The only Toledo I saw in real life, was a 400 sized 700:notworthy1:....still really want one of those...like those shown in Mercian's links.

This is my 915, (an 800 sized pen, and much heavier than a 800....but who cares...) sterling silver overlay Hunter Toledo...'94 some 3,000 made. I had to look that up, my MB Woolf was 'only' 16,000.

From my green pen's picture. And the white looking pen is green. kzJY24b.jpg

I had lost all common sense at this live auction. I saw only the Hunter and the W.German 800 with that tad springier nib than the '91-97 era.....didn't even look at the other ones, when examining the lot before the auction.

If I 'd not won that one, :crybaby:the next lot had two W.Germany black 800's also.

The Pelikan Cities were too small for me.

I was at a pen show when a Pelikan dealer had all the sizes of 05 in blue, I knew i could not afford them so I didn't spend as much time as i should have to really pinpointmy ideal Pelikan size.

I think that I can only be comfortable with a the 805 serie, so I will check the website you gave for those, Mercian.

If i understand correctly, your Hunter Green with silver overlay Toledo is an 915 LE.

But Pelikan made/makes Toledos 400 sized 700?

Let me go back to Mercian link.

Yes, a 900 Toledo is a 800. Mine is Stirling silver so has a different number...why 915 instead of 925 I don't know.

......................

I'd flipped for any Toledo, not just the Hunter which I didn't know a dammed thing about until I won the bid, and came back to the com.  Didn't even know it was called the Hunter.

Greed will make one blind.

Why get another pen OP if Aion is basically what you are looking for?

I already have one but, do not like the other colors.

However, the blog link that I posted states that the "olive" silver is basically silver and its photos confirms it.

However, the blog is from 2018, it is possible that the recent production olive silver Aions have a greenish undertone, which I don't want.

A lot depends on where you like to grip your Aion.  The section varies so widely from the front (9.8mm) to the back (12.95mm by my calipers).  I don't use mine that much because I found the section to be fatter than I like personally (although I do love the style, finish and materials of the pen).  The pens I favor are my Leonardo Magico (11.5-12mm), Monteblanc 146 (11.2mm), Lamy 2000s (10.75mm) and Pilot Custom Enjyu (11.5mm which is the same section as a 743, I believe).  Have you looked at the Leonardo Momento Zero Grande or Furore Grande?  I found their grande pens to be lovely writers but the girth was bigger than I liked so I prefer the Magico.  The weight of the grandes may be closer to the 34g weight you're use to with the Aion, too.
