Lubricating a MK10 piston

After a search, I wasn't able to find much information that was very useful in regards to this topic. I rrcently bought a MK10 - appears to be a first generation (1968-1970) pen, while it works fine filling and the like, the piston is a bit stiff. Currently inked with Noodler's Blue Eel in hopes that its lubricating properties will help some. I am on my second fill since it's arrival in late August. What is required to grease the piston on these lower end pens?

Just looked up how they look, and I don't have nor know about that style of Pelikan.

I avoided them, in none could then tell me about if the nib was a nail or 'regular flex'.

Suggestion take half a shot-glass full of boiling water, stir in toothpick tip's blob of silicon grease in it. Stir. Then after it cools to slightly warm, fill and empty a couple of times until the piston moves easier.

Check out this thread from fpgeeks that tells you how to pull the nib. I have successfully done it. I also purchased a small metric bolt that screwed into the nib unit but can’t remember the size. I just took my pen to the hardware store and tried bolts on for size.

Hi,

Sorry for late response, I'd been away from FPN for a while.

To lubricate the piston, the first way is to remove the section.

The section of MK10 is reverse screwed into the ink window.

The photo above is of cartridge model (P30) but the section part is identical.

You can lubricate the piston and cylinder from front side.

The biggest advantage is no need for special tool.

Another approach for lubrication is to disassemble the filling system from bottom side.

Be aware that the piston mechanism is fixed by reverse thread.

And, re-assembling require fine adjustment of piston position.

The wrench is made from a piece of thin steel plate.

Hope this info may help somebody.
