Heck, my jaw dropped on the FIRST listing....
My two most expensive pens are the M405 Stresemann and M405 Blue Black -- and I SAVED a bit of money by getting them from Rolf Thiel's eBay store (so he didn't have to charge me VAT and I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup; plus back then, eBay did not collect sales tax.  And the cost of BOTH of those pens TOGETHER was a *fraction* of what the seller of that demonstrator is asking.... :yikes:

As for the other listing, the maki-e pen?  It's definitely a work of art -- BUT (and that's a heavy "but").... It costs more than my parents paid for the house I grew up in, back in the late 1960s....  And they bought it with savings and the money they got for our old house....

I hadn’t seen the honey bee pelikan before; it’s a looker.

Too bad it uses a stock M1000 nib otherwise I’d totally buy it :). Not really but still bizarre to put that much into a pen and not do something special with the nib. It’s like buying a Rolls Royce with a Honda engine.

I was sooo just about to order that Classic Pens M1000, but I too was put off by its nib - a ‘BB’ nib on an M1000?

:yikes:

My scrawl is cramped and tiny - and that nib is tantamount to putting a paintbrush on to a firehose!

So, I guess that I can now let that £46,000 (allowing for UK VAT + Import Duty) in ‘loose change’ settle back down into the depths of my sofa, eh?

Then I need a secretary to carry that second one around behind me on a silk cushion, when I buy my 301 foot yacht.

I saw a MB Brandenberg for €16,000 and some small change in real life.

Oh, heck: I have just re-visited my original post and with regard to the first pen, look: it doesn't even sport a gold nib!  What?  A steel nib for that sort of moolah?  🙄

Well that does it, now I'm definitely not buying it :)

The real problem is finding the second fool, so we can have a bidding war!
