Bock Nibs

I have gotten a few pens recently that have shipped with Bock nibs.

I am amazed that a high proportion of them seem, well, (bleep). Babys bottom, dodgy feeds. EFs, Fs, Ms, and Bs

About one out of two of the nibs don't work out of the box.

Is this just me or do others have similar experiences?

It depends a bit on where you buy them from: in my experience, Bock nibs are wonderful writers, but they seem to have a high 'failure rate' coming out of the factory - especially when their production rate is near capacity.  So it comes down to the QC of the pen manufacturers who use them: companies like Karas Pens, who check and tune the nibs before shipping, I rarely have a problem with.  Companies like Namisu, who (in my past experience with them) receive a mass order of nibs for their latest Kickstarter campaign, and just whack them onto their pens before sending, I've gotten a few duds, and had to ask for replacements.

Yup Namisu was the crowd that shipped the duds. Like their pen bodies but will not go there again due to the nibs.

The Bock nibs I get are perfect, but they are always mounted on a Conid. They have one nibmaster, who learned his skills from Fountainbel. Every nib is tuned before leaving the factory.

And for which pen company they are made, as specs may differ.  I have 2 14k and 6 Ti all from the UK distributor, all without issues.

Add lightness and simplicate.

In the last year, my experiences with Bock have been 4 Kaweco standard nibs, one B, two M and um 1.1. All excellent out of the box. The 1.1 needed a very small adjustment, but it wrote well.
I also have EF, F and M, but they are earlier. These needed a little smoothing. And I think one of them had the tines a bit close together. I separated them before inking the fountain pen. The M came with a rotated tine, but I pushed it down and rotated it inwards and it fit perfectly. Today it writes very well.
I also have a Stabilo EasyBuddy. Its tip is fantastic, but I remember that, for the first few weeks, there were occasional skips in the writing.
I also have several Schneider's. The Base (2) and the Ray wrote very well out of the box. Then I got a Ceod that came with the nib on one side. I have not managed to centre it, but the pen writes very well. Mind you, I had to make quite a few adjustments. Schneider offers two types of nibs, I know that Bock is their supplier, but I don't know if they make one or both.
