Jinhao 10, new Capless

Is it made of brass? And how's the branding applied?

It looks promising, but I'm not too big on the bold Jinhao text. I'm thinking one could strip the coating away with acetone for a full-brass look.

If the coating has a hard-coated layer on top, you might need something stronger - like tetrahydrofurane.

Otherwise go for sandpaper.

But better coat it with transparent lacquer after removing the color coating - otherwise it will certainly rust.

I actually really like the Jinhao 10 and have been reaching for it over my Pilot capless thanks to its smooth fine nib. I have one complaint that could impact how you carry it. The clip is attached to a segmented section which is friction fit with a tiny amount of adhesive onto the top. If you are pushing on the clip or there's a lot of pulling on it from a pocket, that top part can come off exposing the gate mechanism and springs. It's easily reattached, but now it's easier to pop off and I wouldn't carry it by the clip anymore. I might see if I can put on a thin ring of epoxy where it looks like adhesive once was to make it more secure.

I actually am trying to remove the clip and the front of section to expose the mechanism. Mine arrived with a very bad seal and so trying to fix it (the pen is great otherwise, pleasantly surprised with a smooth and wet nib). So a soak in hot-ish water should loosen the adhesive to pull off the front "section". Have you seen if the mechanism can be pulled out of the body as well?

Thanks!

I don't know how you would get the mechanism out of the body, but I've included pictures as to what you'll see when you take the cap/clip off. Maybe it'll help you determine what you can do to help with the sealing issue.
