2024 Atlas Sidewalk Sale (Chicago Area Avent) - August 15-16

This year's Atlas Sidewalk Sale is almost upon us, Chicago area friends!

I managed to signed up for a couple of seminars and a social, and looking forward to getting to join this year (last year didn't work out).

In addition to looking forward to the classes, I hope to get some entry level Platinum pens, and try some new brands of ink.

At the Chicago Pen Show I really liked a Platinum 3776 SF (one regular, one with an italic grind), so even though the Preppy isn't my aesthetic, I might see about the new Maki-e ones to dip my toes in. Let me know if they like any of the starters for them better that I can keep an eye out for. :) I'm still new to this hobby and being careful where I ultimately might want to put larger sums.

Atlas also posted shopping rules on Instagram for the venders that will be selling their own wares on the sidewalk.

I love Atlas Stationers, but I don’t live in Chicago. I’ve shopped the online version.

I really like the Platinum Prefounte. It used the same nib as the Preppy but looks better IMO. You can also get the Plaisir which has an aluminum body.

Currently inked:

- Pilot Custom 743 <M> with Pilot Black

- Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue <B> with Pilot Blue

- Lamy Studio All Black <M> with Pilot Blue-Black

They are having some online sales during the event too, from what I understand. It might be worth keeping an eye on!

I think it looks better as well. I am hoping to take a look at them at the shop, because I don’t like some brushed body textures and I am wary of the look of the Plaisir because of this. :) thanks for the feedback.

Thirty years ago I walked into this store. I knew virtually nothing but said I wanted a Pelikan. They were patient and I still have that Pelikan. It's battered and corroded, but still writes wonderfully.

My oldest daughter lives in Chicago so the last time my wife and I went out to visit, my daughter humored me and took me in.

Wonderful shop.  Very knowledgeable staff, always available but never "in your face."

Didn't pull the trigger on any big purchases, but maybe next time!

From what my brother has told me, Atlas Stationers have added more pens and inks, and are less general office supply.
