Looking To Match Platignum Nib Units With A Fountain Pen

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently came across a small case of "Platignum Regal/Silverline italic nib units belonging to my late dad, like the ones  below. Unfortunately I can't find the pen that they fitted into. Obviously it must be a Platignum of some sort. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions as to what would be compatible with them ?

Thanks.

I've seen these before but I don't recall where .... I hope someone chimes in.  I would start by looking for a vintage calligraphy set.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I found the white ones: Platignum Lettering Set with Fountain Pen and 6 Nibs for Calligraphy Writing on the auction website.  I typed in Platignum and Calligraphy into the search engine.

Hi Duffy,

did you find out more? The white plastic nibs look like they will fit in a Platignum Silverline from the 50s, 60s. You can still find these on eBay. But TBH I'm not sure if they are worth the $22USD. The pens seem to still work, but the plastic on the nib units aren't that durable. Though in your pic, the plastic is very white. Usually they yellow from sun exposure.

The italic nibs are fun to use though. The Silverline was a school pen.

Hi @R0b0tcat: Thanks for your input. I did not pursue things any further.  Instead, I bought some calligraphy pen sets. I am really enjoying the italic nibs.

The Platignum pens are quite fragile these days. The ones I've seen often have cracks. It doesn't help that the nib units are often not perfectly round and stretch the grip section as you are screwing them in, causing cracks

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

The Silverlines and Regals are reasonably durable for Platignums, and not uncommon in good working condition. The self-fillers use silicone sacs so even the lever-filling examples should work. Cartridges tend to be expensive since they're long out of production, and the School Pen in all variants is an absolute abomination.
