Any ideas for an ink similar to Waterman Havana/Absolute Brown.  I am down to 1/4 of a bottle, may less.

No, but hopefully someone will have an answer.  I've got about 1/2-2/3 of a bottle left, myself.  (Sigh -- another bottle to hoard, now....)

:) Yes. The Franklin-Christoph looks close, too.

Those two are definitely the closest. Two are redder, two warmer, and the Diamine I don’t think is close at all.

I had NO IDEA about this InkSwatch thing!  Thanks.  What an amazing resource.

Still, I hope Waterman reconsiders, since it was all the properties of that ink, not just the color, that I loved.

Seems highly unlikely, but yeah.

Probably not very helpful, but to me, Absolute Brown and Diamine Oxblood are a weird pair. The Waterman's is a brown ink that often comes out red, and Oxblood is a red that often comes out brown.

MB Toffee Brown might come close, but I think it lacks that little reddish cast of Waterman, and you have to be OK paying MB ink prices...

The two inks I have that are closest in color to Waterman Absolute Brown are Graf von Faber-Castell Hazelnut Brown and Akkerman SBRE Brown. However, both are considerably drier than the Waterman.

I like how Atlas Stationers presents their inks -- they categorize by color, not brand.  Granted you have to scroll through several pages, but I think you get a better idea off of their website what's what.  Here are their browns (your discontinued favorite is the first):

From their photography, Diamine Brandysnap and Private Reserve Copper Burst look similar, but you may already be aware of those.

Thanks for posting the link, Claes.

On my screen, the Franklin-Christoph Terra Firma seems to be a pretty close match color-wise (the others are all either too red, too brown, or have too many other colors in the swab).

Swabs often seem not to correlate with what an ink might look like when written using a fountain pen, presumably due to the concentration of the ink in a small area combined with the properties of the ink- how much absorbs and how much dries on the surface. Add to the equation different pens and papers and it seems to be a lottery with what colour you see when you finally try an ink at home that you saw a swab of online. Everyone here seems fond of swabs, so maybe that opinion isn't shared.
