Staples Premium Bright White 28 lb - Ok, but not quiiiiite there

Recommended Posts

I am traveling this week and am apt to try new things.  Yesterday I found myself in a Staples, looking for some paper and decided to try some of their house brand Premium Bright White 28 lb paper.  I had very good luck with HP's 32-lb premium stuff, so I thought, "what the heck, why not give it a try?"

Is it odd to say that results are mixed?

For one of my standard pens with a stiff nib, it actually seems ok.  Turns out there is a bit of feathering if you look closely, but it might pass muster for doodling.  The problem comes with flex nibs or anything really with a generous flow.

Here's a 100% crop of the worst of it:

I guess whatever HP is using on their premium copy paper really has the secret sauce.  In contrast, the Staples house brand is good for grocery lists, but not much else.

Thanks for the quick review, @Inky_Ben!  It really is sad that we can't get a good FP-friendly printer / copy paper in the US. :(   I have some Hammermill 28lb that spreads like crazy and tries to bleed (even from my EF and F nibs).  My 24lb HP Premium does better, but isn't as good as it used to be.
