Review - Majohn Ti136 (P136 in titanium)

Ti136 is a name I gave it to. The official name is "P136 Titanium". It is titanium, and it is a variation of P136, why not call it Ti136. what a splendid name!

Pro:

  • two surface finishing, matt & hammer
  • functional piston
  • cap (and more parts) is interchangeable with MontBlanc 146, if you bother.

Con:

  • titanium is cheap, but processing titanium costs a fortune.
  • Matt version, prone to scratch. I already scratched mine in 5 minutes and 38 seconds the box was opened.

To sum up, I bet Ti136 will again be kind of "one off deal". Remember what happened to Ti500 (Majohn version of Lamy2000)? The shelf time lasted 2 weeks, and that was it. In addition, the hammer version is just stunningly beautiful, each single bump requires Sally (lady from Majohn assembly line) and her like to bang hummers back and forth. That's just laboring. Even Majohn get the costing accounting correct this time, the bottleneck of the productivity remains there: how fast can Sally works with her hammer. Honestly, I highly doubt Ti136 Hammer will be on regular offering, even at $100.

I see that the price of the smooth titanium P136 hs dropped to $96 or there about, while the hammered version is at a higher price point to reflect Sally and her coworkers ping-ping-pinging on the caps and barrels.

I have a hammered version promised to me so I’m hopeful…but would be satisfied if I can only get the smooth version.

Looks like unobtainium.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I always wanted a hammered* 51 cap, so this would be a consolation prize.

*Aftermarket, of course, since Parker didn’t make one.

After watching the market for a week since launch, Ti136 doesn't cause a sensation as much as the P139 Hemingway. Maybe price, and co axis are the two main reasons.

I paid domestic price of $70 for the Matt version, $100 for the hammer, which, to my best knowledge, is the top range of Majohn since it's founded. (2 years ago, ti500 $70).

A lot complains on the co axis problem. I just uploaded a Shorts in YT. Three copies of mine, no such issue. Now, you will be trying your luck.

Back to the pen itself, it fulfills all my imagination of a writing instrument, perfect functional weight of 27g, a metal barrel lasts a life time, and the stunning hammer look. Definitely not a pen you fellow civilian could come across in Walmart.

I keep my prospectus on the short availability time of Ti136, plus a seems like already market failure. Ti136 will not last long, especially the hammer version. Market mass seems does not appreciate titanium and craftsmanship.

Finally, i did some research on the hammering process. It wasn't hammer. A tooth grinding machine with 10mm ball head is used for this process. At this moment, Sally and her fellow ladies, wearing face masks, covered in titanium dust all over the sweaty forehead (FYI, 40 degree in Zhejiang), while tiktok hilarious laugh played in background, are preparing for your new toys.

BTW, check my YT Post section more often, easy to upload image there.

Also unobtanium with the larger nib.  I find it very difficult to purchase unavailable pens..  Two in a row from Majohn.  Terrible marketing.  I put them on the ignore list.

P139 #8 is made of unobtanium. The initial batch of less than 100

was sold out very quick, then three months passed on, no restock.

The bottle neck of P139 #8 is its ebonite feed. It is a composite material and is not commonly available. Unless, Majohn runs its independent factory, which is very unlikely. Not many independent pen companies out there.

I don't think companies like Majohn bothers marketing. Basing on my experience, they even struggle with annual product launch planning. But 2024 is a good year for Majohn fans, really, from Feb to Jul, p138, p139, a1 polished, Ti136. They used to be one pen each year……

I understand your frustration. Same as I try to source some knives made in USA.

Titanium and Ebonite are readily available.

I have been looking for the hammered version with no luck.

My P139#8 is gone. Slipped off my hand and instantly broke into two pieces landing on a wooden floor.

I kept the nib just in case. Very very fragile plastic for 60$ or so.

the best bit of P139 #8 is the nib+ebonite feed.

I guess, if you get a P139 #6, in which the colar is interchangeable with the #8 feed and nib. I am not 100% sure about this, ask your seller first.

For your additional info, Majohn P139 cap/barrel is interchangeable with Jinhao Tiandao 1935. I know, what the hell ...

I have 3 P139#6s. Unfortunately the #8 collar/feed/nib is too wide and won't fit.

I don't like the looks of the 1935. Too Rinky dinky cheesy for my taste.

But if is with some other pen I'd appreciate.

As you say, what the hell, in the end.

Totally agreed with you. Mine are No.6. I also broke mine in two... The orange plastic looked good in picture. But real thing looked cheap. I think it is overprice  T^T

Should I buy Ti136 now ?

I afraid it will be out of stock soon , as Ti500...

I am a big fan of lamy 2000. I wished I could buy Ti500 🥲. Now I have a feeling that if I don't buy it now. It will be gone forever.

The price for Matt now is 100$ ... Is it reasonable?

What's stopping you?

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I used to buy P 139 # 6 when it recently came out at 55$  .. now the price (p139 #6) drop to 33$ .

I don't know if the price for Ti 136 will go down or not. I mean if it IS mass production it should be available for a long time and right now is not the best time to buy it, am I right ?

The hammered version is unobtainable any way.

Ps . Plus the impression I got from p 139 , as I said before, is cheap plastic... Not worth the price.
