This is the 2nd ink, part of 5 blind ink testing. Many thanks @Lithium466 for the sample 🙏🙏🙏

This is lovely purple up to M nibs afterwards it becomes more anemic and paler. It’s very wet but behaves decently on copy paper. So, if you want a good purple that behaves well on copy paper, it might be the one for you. On the other hand if you use wet pens it might be not the one for you :)

While there's some shading, I would not consider this as a shading ink.

The ink stayed two and half ink in the pen. After an overnight soaking, in the end I had to use a cleaning solution to make sure that the purple residue is completely gone :)

Writing Samples:

I reverse wrote to create an UEF line.

B was the code name for Violet Boréal in the blind test.

Text is from Non Campus Mentis: World History According to College Student. The spellings are the way the students wrote them :)

Despite what the scan might show, the performance is much better than J Herbin Violette pensée.

As you can see using a very wet flex pen on copy paper is not a good idea.

Water test:

Left side 10 seconds under running water. Sketch was done with a glass nib, hence more ink.

Art Work:

Will it rain?

I posted this before, but at the time I didn't know the name of the purple ink :)

Yellow ink is R &K Helianthus

Grey is Noodler's Lexington Gray

Light blue is Faber-Castell Aquarelle pencil

and blue Grey is Taccia Hiroshige Utagawa Ainezu

will_it_rain__by_yazeh1_dhmdlp6-414w-2x.

and a new creation on Canson mixed media paper:

Psychedelic forest

The inks are the same as above (minus Helianthus and the aquarelle pencil). I don't know the name of the sea-glass ink which I've used in different dilution for the sky and the land.

You can also see the contrast between a real dark grey ink Lexington (diluted) vs Taccia Ainezu

·      Pens used: Lamy (reverse EF, Ef/F/M/B, BB), Kanwrite with Ahab nib.

·      What I liked: I liked it up to M nibs.

·      What I did not like: Broad nibs onward, too wet.

·       What some might not like: Same as above.

·      Shading: Meh!

·      Ghosting: Not much on cheap paper.

·      Bleed through: Faint, only with flex.

·      Flow Rate: Very Wet

·      Lubrication: Slightly below average.

·      Nib Dry-out: Did not notice.

·      Start-up:  Ok

·      Saturation:  Rich

·      Shading Potential: Meh!

·      Sheen: No.

·      Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Did not notice.

·      Nib Creep / “Crud”: Did not notice.

·      Staining (pen): No.

·      Clogging: Did not notice.

·      Cleaning: In the end I had to use a cleaning solution.

·      Water resistance: Dismal

·      Availability: 50ml bottle, 7-Pack Long Cartridges

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier  :)

World History According to College Students

And some people wonder why our world is messed up.... :D

Thank you, @yazeh, for this informative review!  I learned that Yahoo and the Suez canal have been around much longer than I would have thought and having sex was a Chinese tradition as far back as 550BCE.  And apparently, the mice will outlive us all... :lticaptd:

The swatch for Noodler's 1984 is appropriately creepy.  The swatch kitty for "B" (this ink) is quite possibly the hippest cat ever to grace an ink review! :D

Who knew kitties like grapes!?  The ink does surprisingly well on the water test - guess that explains the difficulty in getting it out of your pen.  Ah, kitty and mousey waiting for rain are back.  Alas, no rain in sight for the next week here. :(

And that's a lovely purple forest!  What will mouse and kitty find once they cross the river?  Will they survive the purple forest?  Inquiring minds want to know! :D

I always love your reviews, Yazeh!  This one was especially fun.

When you put it like that it's even funnier. I wonder how they did it before 550 BCE :lticaptd:as for the mice, I'm not so sure as kitty's rule the world, but their bigger brethren the rat's they for sure will outlive us :D

When I was studying in France, once I complained to my teacher for failing me, so she showed me a couple of papers who had got a decent note.(12/ 20) When I pointed out that all the facts were wrong and the dissertation was based on erroneous information, she told me, that the most important think is reasoning, following the thesis, antithesis, synthesis formula and not "facts". Though in the end she relented and helped me pass. :)

Thanks for the review.  This ink is a maybe for me (I like purple inks a lot, but have an awful lot of them already).

As for the text, it reminded me of the old "True Classroom Flubs and Fluffs" cartoon strip....

Non Campus Mentis.... 😹

I liked this summery ink, and the bottle looks cool, too.  Of your comparisons I have Violette Pensee, which is about as dark as I want in a summer purple.

I won't be able to tell if it's hard to rinse because the pen body isn't transparent.  Yay.

Fox 'n' grapes, lol.  Love the sketches, and the quotes, and your ink-splorations.  Thanks, @yazeh, and please keep them coming.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Professor Eeeness here:

One more purple review, one more wet J.Herbin ink, many more charming writing samples and outstanding attractive drawings! Grade: excellent!

:)  :)

This is indeed a mellifluous1 variant of purple/violet and would be an instant buy if not from J.Herbin with J.Herbin's predictable wetness.

I love your graphical interpretations, starting from the swatch card towards the water resistance test (I agree, grapes must be rinsed before consumption by the FOX), the great sacrifice of mouse and into the psychedelic forest!

And I like how you inspired @LizEF with the last! 👍 Great new story parts upcoming, I guess. ;)

Always a pleasure seeing a new of your reviews popping up!

(words spoken/written by a groupie)

footnote 1: I did use LEO online translator to find this complicated word. :)  German language seems so much more simple 🧑‍🎓 (the word is: einschmeichelnd) :) :)

One life!

I understand. Purple is a special colour. I'M very picky when it comes to it :)

It's the removing the last purple residue which is tricky :)

I would say this is different that J Herbin inks, after all it's Jacques not J :D  It's closer to Bleu des Profondeur in behaviour, and while wet it's not watery.  Though personally I would not buy it :)

Well the German word is longer :D I got another word for it:  beguiling,  ingratiating, enticing:)

The French word was séduire, which I doubt it's what you meant 😛

I think it's one of those words that gets lost in translation.

Mellifluous is more about sound than sight :)

I decided to google it.  Google says "mellifluous" means "(of a voice or words) sweet or musical; pleasant to hear."  (Which was what I thought, but had to go see if there were ink-applicable meanings I didn't know.) Then I googled the German word.  Fascinating how many different translations there are, depending on the translation tool.  I think "Langenscheidt" probably gave the best one for use with an ink: ingratiating (not); intriguing, enticing, alluring (yes); silken, silky (not).

This was really hard! Among all suggestions, only ingratiating comes close to what I meant while not more than one out of nine interpretations of beguiling is also not too far away. Both terms are not 100% what I meant. I choose mellifluous as one of the translator suggestions starting with "einschmeichelnd" and checked each of the English words by translating it back into German (that's how I do with all words or terms I do not feel confident).

Daily lessons to learn include the proper use of words. Sadly, that's not among my primary skills. Thank you both for helping out!

PS, that's how I would have written it in German: Der Farbton dieser violetten Tinte schmeichelt sich an die Netzhaut in etwas so an, wie es ein glatter runder Stein an die Handfläche oder der weiche Kragen aus Kunstfell meiner Jacke an Hals und Nacken tut.

This is what perplexity.ai did when I asked for an English translation of my German text while eliminating all technical or scientific associations. It provided four variants, this is the first:

The color of this violet ink caresses the retina in a similar way as a smooth, round stone caresses the palm of the hand, or as the soft faux fur collar of my jacket caresses the neck and nape.

I had great fun going further, asking perplexity.ai to do a poetic version:

The hue of this violet ink
Caresses the retina with a gentle wink,
Like a smooth round stone in the palm's embrace,
Or the soft faux fur collar, a tender grace,
Embracing neck and nape with its plush caress

OMG, I had so much fun! :)

I was trying to give life to the "Professor" on my sketchbook.

This was concerning our discussion about my water test on Japanese paper (Mnemosyne) and how ink behaviour) under water is different to using a water brush.  I believe it might be paper related.

I often use different types of paper of drawing, sometimes sketchbook like below but a lot of times mixed media paper and rarely watercolour.

For the drawing below, the paper is very absorbent (it's only for pencil/charcoal), it was very difficult to control ink, especially when the brush/pen combination refused to cooperate and fell on the paper and even with my hand tissue paper I couldn't remove the ink, as it bonded with the paper.

I tried to correct errors using Octopus's White Polar Bear, but the ink is useless, morels and I cannot wipe off "mistakes".

The background I used a blue Faber-Castell aquarelle pencil and you can see how I had difficulty dissolving it with water at some parts. You can also see where drop of ink have create "ink drops" :)

Noodler's Lexington Gray (wet ink, bulletproof, fast drying) difficult to control on absorbent paper.

Eel Red Rattler's (partially water proof)
Rohrer & Klingner Helianthus
Jacques Herbin Violet Boréal

Noodler's Polar Brown

And a vermillon ink which is barely water resistant. )
