Parker Magnetix Pen Holder

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, Once in a while something turns up at a Thrift store and I bought this Parker Magnetix pen holder today.  Was it used for a wide number of Parker models, does anyone know please?  I'm dating it to the '50's, it's very MCM - the base is probably Alabaster, the magnetic ball is not rusted, it's a very clever piece of design. Any information will be much appreciated.

The long metal piece between the ball and the pen holder as well as the long tang at the opening makes me think 60s. Likely a 45, what I think of as a later 51 desk pen (built in Aerometric filler but not marked 51), or a 61 desk pen (longer hood than the 51, and a sort of a permanently attached squeeze converter). The "later 51" and 61 designations might not be correct, but they are what I use to differentiate from an earlier 51 desk pen which is marked 51 on the Aero filler.

That said, any of the above plus 21 and earlier 51 pens should fit (along with 45 ballpoints and pencils).

Hi, as mentioned in the posts above you can fit this desk pen holder with a Parker 21, 45, 51 or 61 desk pen although the 21 desk pen may not be "catalog correct".

This particular pen holder with long plastic receptacle and slender metal stem was introduced in 1957 (see Parkergrams May 1957, available in the PCA library here). In Parker catalogs of 1957 to 1960 it is associated to the Parker 51 desk pen while the Parker 21 desk pen, which was an entry level pen, was mated to a simpler desk pen holder (such as the one seen here). The taper of the 51 desk pen also had a gold plated metal cone at the top, which matches the gold plated stem of the holder. In 1961, Parker introduced the 61 desk pen (see Parkergram April 1961) and also the 45 desk pen and both these desk pens were also mated to this same 'luxurious' desk pen holder. The Magnetix version of this holder remained in the Parker catalog until circa 1973, after which only the Spherix type of this holder survived (the Spherix is not magnetic but permanently fixed, such as this one).

Thanks so much.  I don't think I have the appropriate desk pen for it, one might turn up before Scriptus, the Toronto Pen Show, but if not, I'll have it on my table, priced so sell LOL!
