PLP Ebonite Jumbos arrived this week

Thanks to the regular contributors on this India & Subcontinent (Asia) forum for bringing this manufacturer to light. As some of you may already know, Ranga Pens (my go-to Indian pen manufacturer) has discontinued dedicated eyedropper pens. One door closes, another door opens, but for how long? The old-school masters may not be around much longer, ebonite rods distinctive to India may no longer be available in the near future, etc. So, I reached out to PLP Pens. Mr. Satish Kumar promptly answered my queries and readily accommodated my request to have my pens fitted with black sections. I ordered three Jumbo ebonite pens, equipped as dedicated eyedroppers, all with polished Black sections, and Ambitious 35 mm "M" nibs. I mulled over specifying 40 mm nibs but decided to stick with 35 mm nibs for now. No regrets.

Due to a recent flare-up with my arthritis, I asked my friend from India if he would do the honor of breaking in these pens. He was more than excited when I dropped the pens off this weekend. He's really old-school India; he only has two pens, both dedicated eyedroppers, both jumbos, both black, and both from the 1950s.

I know some users may not like black specs in their ebonites. However, I seek this out as it looks old-school cool. The Green/Yellow ripple ebonite pen in the image below (my favorite) delivers this in spades, as I hoped it would. I've already tagged this pen as my go-to-the-grave fountain pen!

:)

I still love my Ranga 3C and 4CS as my daily writers. My Ranga 4CS is at the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the PLP Jumbo and stands on its own with its slim and elegant proportions.

Beautiful pens 👍 I like the colour of the two PLP ones at the bottom.

And I agree with you, best to get these friction-fit-nib-setup pens while they are still offered. I mean I hope they don't go the Woodex route and offer some models only with nib-unit setting. The newer generation of penmakers don't seem that interested in continuing the legacy of friction-fit pens.

Nice pens!

Just to add, Mohi still seems to offer mostly eyedropper models, but they are usually pocket size pens, and not the jumbo ones.

Great looking pens. I got the red and solid green both very good writers (although the red on came via the Gama Madras route).

The Gama Madras and Gama Supreme Neo were some of the other Jumbo pens I looked at, too.

MOHI has been harder for me to track down on the Internet, but I will consider them for future purchases.

Yeah, this is why I'm focusing on these traditional-style eyedroppers from India before they all go the 3-in-1 route.

I didnt know this before i had it in my hands, but Gama Madras and PLP jumbo is the same pen, perhaps PLP is the manufacturer (I don't know). the only difference is the mark on the clip. And the Gama Madras is a friction fit barrel filler only, while PLP can give you both barrel filling and CC filling options.

Yes, they only have their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/people/Abhay-Pen-Agencies/100057386780900/

But Mr Anant Pathak from Abhay Pen Agencies (owner of the Mohi brand) is very active on Phone/Whatsapp: +91 92253 28858

You may try contacting him through the above routes.

Follow-up images with one of my Ranga 4CS for comparison. The 4CS is the "Slimmer" version of the 4C and is listed as having a 14 mm Barrel Diameter.

September UPDATE:

When I became aware of the PLP Jumbo dedicated eyedropper pens a while back, I knew I would eventually order one in blue/black ebonite and another in black ebonite. However the black ebonite jumbo was not available then, hence the wait. The wait is over, and the black ebonite jumbo arrived a few days ago. I'm a happy camper with this small collection of PLP Jumbos. I'm sure my friend will be more than excited to see the black ebonite Jumbo this weekend. He's all about India, jumbos, black ebonite, dedicated eyedroppers, ebonite feeds, nibs made in India, inks made in India, etc. I'm sure this pen will more than meet with his approval.

Beauties ❤️  I am a fan of Black Ebonites too. About 16 pens from my small collection of 35 pens are black ebonite.

Unfortunately, I can not provide pics of the feed itself. My friend needed to use a knock-out fixture to remove the feeds, which according to him is not that uncommon. So the images below are all that I can provide at this time.

The nib on the PLP website is listed as "Ambitious 35 MM."
